The city was recently made aware, by a member of the Merchant’s Association, of a proposed car show event at the town center. Unfortunately, that event was not permitted and the farmers market permit is not a general permit that would allow them to expand without notice and approval from the Merchant’s Association and the City.

City staff will be reaching out to the event holders on Monday to see how we can work with them to hold their event in the future.
In the meantime, there is absolutely no restriction for people that have show ready cars that want to drive their classic car over to the farmers market, park in the parking lot, and shop for a while. That is not an event. It is just people shopping who just so happen to have amazing cars they drove there.

The city encourages anything that brings business to the town center, but we have an obligation to make sure all events are done safely and legally to protect all attendees.

At last week’s City Council Meeting on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the City of Canyon Lake marked a historic milestone with the official swearing-in of our inaugural Chief of Police, Chief Jim Rayls.

This moment represents more than the start of a new department, it reflects the continued growth of our community and a shared commitment to public safety, service, and leadership.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Rayls as he begins this important new chapter for Canyon Lake. We look forward to the future of the Canyon Lake Police Department and the positive impact it will have on our community for years to come.

Congratulations, Chief Rayls! 🇺🇸

Beginning Monday, May 18, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will begin its annual fuel modification project in areas adjacent to homes throughout Canyon Lake. Crews will be working near Vacation, Longhorn, Giant Fir, Appaloosa, and portions of Yosemite to help reduce hazardous vegetation and strengthen wildfire preparedness efforts within our community.

The fuel modification zone is expected to extend approximately 100 feet from the property line into the open space areas. Residents may notice personnel and equipment working in these locations during the project.

These proactive efforts help create safer conditions for residents, firefighters, and surrounding properties during fire season.

Stay safe, Canyon Lake!
