The City knows that there are questions about water service at The Mountain, and we want to give City residents and business owners a clear picture of the current situation.

Old Mill Marketplace is served by six water meters under a single account holder. Water service was turned off at the request of the account holder on July 8th. City policy is to terminate service when a request is made by the authorized account holder, as in this case. Because the entire Mountain area is zoned First Monday, there should be few, if any, full-time residents in the affected area.

Restoring water is not a matter of flipping a switch. The prior account is closed, and turning water back on means establishing new service at the request of the new property owner. Before a connection to the City water system is made, the City must confirm that the water system meets all applicable City ordinances and state codes.

The City is not the new property owner, has not condemned any building at Old Mill Marketplace, and has not ordered anyone to leave the property.

The City will work with the new property owner on the steps needed to restore water service once that request has been made. We will share more information as it becomes available.

We will be testing our tornado sirens today at 2:00 PM. If you hear the sirens at that time, this is the reason. This is only a test, and no action is required, but it’s a great reminder to review your own severe weather plans.

Today we were honored to celebrate K9 Officer C. Mattingly, for 10.5 years of dedicated service to the Canton Police Department. Officer Mattingly is furthering his law enforcement career with the Sealy Police Department, we wish Officer Mattingly and his family all the best in his next step.

The Canton Police Department is currently accepting applications for 1 full time TCOLE certified police officer. Applications can be picked up at the police department or at City of Canton, Texas city hall; applications can also be turned in at both locations. Applications will need to be turned in by May 29, 2026 close of business.
