90 years ago today, June 9, 2026, Mississippi River traffic started moving through Lock and Dam 20 here at Canton. What amazing changes and opportunities that brought to our area!

Today we are wishing a happy birthday to Lock and Dam 20 near Canton, Missouri! At 90 years young, Lock and Dam 20 has been helping vessels navigate the Mississippi River since June 9, 1936.

Today, 21.7 million tons of cargo pass through Lock and Dam 20 annually.

From Mayor Fretwell: The Canton Police Department and the City of Canton welcomes the newest police officer to the Canton Police Department - Samuel Weber. Samuel comes from the Eldon MO Police Department where he has been an officer for one year. He will be joining Anthony Shaffer in the Palmyra Police Department training program which is one of the best training programs in the area. Both officers will be on full time duty here in Canton around the first part of July. The City of Canton wishes to thank Police Chief Mike Baker and the Palmyra Police Department for training our new incoming officers.
