Congrats to our winner Cole!

Canton Firefighters J. Burdick and D. Johnson recently paid a special visit to a local student to deliver a unique prize: a ride in a fire truck. The student earned the honor during Recruitment Week by winning the "Halligan Hold" contest, outlasting all other participants in a test of endurance. The Halligan weighs approximately 10 lb. Congratulations to our winner on a display of impressive strength and stamina!

Canton Fire responded to its second working fire within five hours when dispatched to 159 Potter Road for a reported camper trailer fire at 12:38 am. Chief Johnson arrived on scene at 12:44 and found a tow-behind camper fully involved, with flames spreading to a utility trailer and threatening multiple nearby structures. CFD Hosts Recruitment Event at Canton High School

On April 23rd, several members from Canton Fire Department visited Canton High School to display equipment and answer questions about department membership. This event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with students and highlight the importance of younger individuals joining the fire service.

The "Tool Challenge" (boys held the Halligan, and girls held the Axe) was a popular feature of the visit, with the winner of each earning a ride in a fire truck.

The Canton Fire Department thanks the staff at Canton High School for allowing us the opportunity, as well as the students who took time during their lunch period to participate and learn more about volunteering with the Canton Fire Department.

Canton Fire Department Responds to Fully Involved Structure Fire in Hermon
At approximately 5:26 AM, the Canton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the Town of Hermon. The call was initiated following a request from Car 5, who arrived first on the scene and confirmed the severity of the situation.
Upon receiving the tone, Canton members immediately mobilized, responding to the station to man apparatus and prepare specialized firefighting equipment for the mutual aid request.
Scene Conditions and Mutual Aid
As Car 5 assessed the scene, it was determined that the structure was already fully involved. Due to the intensity of the blaze and the potential for extension, a call for additional manpower and resources was issued to several surrounding departments, including:
Richville Fire
DeKalb Junction Fire
Pyrites Fire
The Pyrites and DeKalb Junction departments arrived shortly after Car 5 to find the building completely engulfed in flames. Given the heavy fire load and the structural integrity of the building upon arrival, crews transitioned to defensive operations. The primary objective shifted to containment, ensuring that the fire did not spread to neighboring properties or the surrounding vegetation.
Outcome and Investigation
Firefighters worked diligently for several hours to knock down the main body of fire and extinguish hot spots. Fortunately, after a thorough assessment, it was confirmed that there was no entrapment, and no injuries were reported among civilians or emergency personnel.
Canton Fire officially returned to the station and was back in service by 8:54 AM with a total of 9 members assisting in the effort.
Current Status: The cause of the fire is currently undetermined. The scene has been turned over to fire investigators to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
Our thoughts are with the property owners, and we extend our thanks to our mutual aid partners for their swift response and coordination on the scene.
