Did you know that Indian Creek Nature Center was host to a fairy house this year?

Thimble Hickory and Blossom Dewdrop visit different trails in the North Country each year and love answering your nature questions! Nature Up North takes care of their houses in the off season, and is set to retrieve them after this Sunday. Don't miss your chance to leave the fairys any questions you might have! Here's the clue for finding our fairy house:

You will start your journey along the “Connector Trail”, a short and magical grassy shoot. Here you may hear chirping crickets, calling geese, or even the occasional owl hoot.

You will also encounter some colorful plants; red trillium, bunchberries, and the classic red leaves of maple trees in fall!

A short distance further you will encounter a sign. To “The Wetland Trail” you'll head by our design. Make a right turn onto a long boardwalk. Once you're here, keep your eyes open and try not to gawk, and the bounty of wildlife like the birds, frogs, and insects that call this area home.

Once you reach the end of this boardwalk, slow down and look very carefully with glee ... my house is near! It is nestled low down between two trees.

Join Clarkson University Honors Students as they lead a guided walk and discuss how the natural environment at ICNC is transforming around us. Why do leaves change color in the fall? Where do all the animals go? What about the dragonflies? Come find out! Meet at ICNC's main entrance parking lot at 11am. Wear shoes appropriate for walking through the woods on (potentially muddy) trails. More details to come soon! Questions? Email Evelyn Laferriere at [email protected]

Join us on Saturday, October 4th for a Fall Bird Walk! We will meet at 8:00AM in the parking lot at the main entrance. Please dress for the weather and be prepared for potentially muddy trails by wearing good walking shoes and prepared for mosquitoes with repellant. We expect to find fall songbird, raptor, and waterfowl migrants passing through on their way to wintering in the southern US and Latin America, as well as resident species that are found at Indian Creek year-round. Bring binoculars, or we have a few to loan for the walk. Learn more/how to RSVP via our website.

Don't miss your chance to attend an event led by Indian Creek's newest board member this Saturday!

Starting at 10:00am under the pavilion at Indian Creek, Joe Longshore will be leading a talk on bird language! For twenty years, Joe has taught wilderness survival, nature awareness and bird language locally and in classes as far away as California. He was first introduced to bird language over 25 years ago while studying with world-renowned naturalist Tom Brown Jr.

We hope to see you, rain or shine, this Saturday!
