So proud of our 4x Volunteer of the Year, Randy Starr, for being recognized as one of the top volunteers of the year in the entire state! Randy truly is an asset to the program, and we are so lucky that he chooses to donate his time to us among the many other organizations he is a part of. Also, to update the numbers, he is now well over 700 total visits and almost 100 for the year!
🌟 ServeOhio Award Recipient Spotlight! 🌟
Honoring the exceptional service of Randy Starr from Canton!
The Stark County Court Angel program supports more than 2,100 adults with disabilities or cognitive impairments under guardianship, ensuring they are safe, cared for, and protected from abuse or neglect. When the program was pushed to the brink after the pandemic and major staff turnover, Randy stepped up in an extraordinary way.
Since joining in 2022, Randy has completed 651+ visits and contributed 1,988 volunteer hours—the highest of any volunteer in the last 15 years. For two years, he kept the program operating by taking on the largest caseload, handling the most challenging visits, and training new volunteers. He travels across Stark County to reach individuals others cannot locate or feel unsafe visiting, ensuring no one is forgotten.
Thanks in part to his leadership and dedication, the Court Angel program has quadrupled its active volunteers, restoring it as the largest volunteer‑based guardian‑visitor program in the nation. His service has strengthened protections for hundreds of the county’s most vulnerable residents.
Please join us in celebrating Randy for his incredible commitment and for being one of our inspiring 2026 ServeOhio Award recipients! 💙🙌
