This morning, the flags at the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office were lowered to half-staff in honor of Mabank Fire Marshal Charlie Woodard.

On Saturday evening, Fire Marshal Woodard was tragically struck by a vehicle while assisting with traffic control following a local event. He later succumbed to his injuries despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel.

We join the Mabank Police Department, Mabank Fire & Rescue, and the entire first responder community in mourning this tremendous loss. Please keep Charlie’s family, friends, and all those who served alongside him in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

From assisting officers and their families in times of need to providing training, professional resources, and community programs like Blue Santa, our mission is to serve those who serve.
