The Canton Fire Department has proudly served the Town of Canton responding from 21 Adams Street for 50 plus years. Today as the building fell we take a minute to reflect on the memories that were made in our Fire House! There were countless hours of discussions and gallons upon gallons of coffee drank while staring out of the windows that overlooked our Town. Meetings were held on Monday nights, we trained and an occasional card game might have taken place. We had so many kids that came by to see the station and look at the Fire trucks. Every group wanted to know why we didn't have a pole to slide down.
There were birthdays, retirements and holidays celebrated. After the days work was done we sat and watched ballgames together. We talked, listening to each other's stories about family, vacations, fishing trips and everything else you could imagine.
Many nights we went without sleep, up answering calls. 21 Adams St became our safe haven to return to. When we finished with the calls we would come back, clean up and put the trucks and equipment back in service. When we made it up stairs there was not many times that there was not a pot of fresh coffee waiting.
On 4 occasions we had to abandon our building due to the floods that tore through Canton. September of 2024 we left for the last time. We now respond from a temporary location with the same pride and dedication as we did before.
There are so many memories that could be shared and I hope this post reminds us all of the importance and significance of this building and brings a smile to everyone who has had a part of our Department.
Thank you to all of the men and women who over the years have given to and supported the Canton Fire Department. We are looking forward to the future of our Department.
