JRC

JRC is a non-profit organization, founded in 1974, with two centers serving children and seniors. We are also proud to offer two unique programs to JRC.

Our mission statement at JRC is to enrich lives through educating children, engaging seniors, and strengthening community. At JRC, we care about our earliest learners and also ensuring quality of life for seniors! Early education is the key to building the foundation for learning. JRC provides early education and quality care at our two Learning Center locations. On the other end of the spectrum, people are living longer and ensuring quality of life is intact is key. Our JRC Adult Day Center exists to provide purposeful and engaging activities for those who need assistance, also enabling their caretaker to work or receive respite. We offer intensive services such as showering and personal care, and can accept veterans utilizing VA benefits. Our goal is to help individuals stay in their own home for as long as possible. Our Healthy Habits program focuses on providing nutritious and healthy food to our children and seniors. JRC also offers the Intergenerational Connections Program, where we bring children and seniors together for purposeful and fun activities. It is an opportunity for seniors to interact with children, while children can learn from older adults. Call for a tour today or to learn more!

Twenty-five years later, we remember September 11, 2001—a day forever etched into our nation’s memory.

We honor the lives lost, the families and friends whose lives were forever changed, the first responders, and all who demonstrated extraordinary courage and compassion.

From New York City and the Pentagon to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, we remember the passengers and crews of Flights 11, 175, 77, and 93.

Today, we pause together in remembrance.

JRC’s 14th Street Learning Center is celebrating a big birthday—25 years in the Northeast Canton community! For a quarter century, the center has provided trusted early learning and care for children from six weeks through preschool.

We’d love for you to celebrate with us on Wednesday, October 7, from 3–6 p.m. We’ll share memories and thank the families, educators, neighbors, and community partners who have been part of the center’s story.

Guests will enjoy small bites, brief remarks, and an opportunity to visit the center and connect with the JRC community.

We had an amazing time attending United Way of Greater Stark County at its Annual Meeting this morning and hearing about its continued commitment to early learners and school-age children. We enjoyed hearing Dr. Iwanenko share how deepening community ties can help create stronger communities and neighborhoods. Overall, we’re so grateful for United Way’s support of JRC’s Learning Centers and proud to be a funded partner in building a stronger community.

Some of the most important work at JRC happens around the table. 💚

Meet Tim Knight, Kitchen Manager at JRC’s Myrna Pastore Campus. Tim leads the team that prepares nutritious meals for our children and seniors while helping ensure we meet CACFP nutrition and program requirements.

For Tim, the work is about much more than what is on the menu.
“Seeing the direct impact we have on the individuals and families we serve every day makes the work meaningful.”

He is proud to be part of a flexible, supportive team where everyone steps in to keep things running smoothly. Through his role, Tim has continued to grow as a leader, problem-solver, and thoughtful planner.

Thank you, Tim, for bringing purpose, care, and leadership to the kitchen each day. We are grateful you are part of the JRC team!

Porch geese are all the rage—and JRC’s Adult Day Center is getting in on the fun! 🪿

Last month, our first goose arrived. It quickly became clear that she needed a partner, and now the pair is brightening our days and bringing plenty of smiles to our members.

Our Adult Day Center members have submitted name ideas, and now it’s your turn! Some suggestions for our girl goose include Gail the Goose, Dolly, Gertrude, and Lucy.

Today, we join so many in remembering Dolly Parton and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she gave children more than books. She helped plant “the seeds of dreams” in children and families around the world, reminding us that stories can open doors to learning, imagination, and possibility.📚

At JRC Learning Centers, we are grateful to partner with Stark Library to help connect our families with the Imagination Library. Dolly’s belief in children, reading, and the power of a dream has touched communities everywhere, including ours.

Her light will continue to shine each time a book is opened, and a child begins to imagine what their future can be.

Last week’s Intergenerational Program was an extra special one.

Our preschool friends spent time with our Adult Day Center participants before beginning a new chapter: kindergarten. These moments are at the heart of JRC — bringing generations together in ways that build connection, kindness, and joy.

As these children take their next big step, we are wishing them and their families a wonderful start to the school year. We’re grateful for the laughter, learning, and love they shared with us along the way.

Once part of the JRC family, always part of the JRC family.
