On May 13th at approximately 2:50pm, TFPD responded to a tractor/trailer on fire on Highway 50 at MM266 near CR157.

The truck was already almost fully involved when we arrived on-scene and had started to spread into the trees and grass on the side of the highway. We expended approximately 5000 gallons of water with support from Fremont County Emergency Management, BLM, Deer Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Canon City Area Fire Protection District, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Transportation and Penrose Towing.
The highway was closed for several hours for suppression and tow recovery.
The truck was hauling milk. The driver was safely out of the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.

TFPD and several other Fire Districts in Fremont and Custer Counties are implementing a new online burn permitting program. This will streamline the process when you call to request permission to burn and allow all Districts and Dispatch to view current burns, helping reduce false alarms.
The new system is available and ready to go, so sign up now!

NOTE: We are still in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions.
We wanted to get this information to you now so you can set up your burn location and get ready to go once we exit fire restrictions.
