Starting Monday, September 8, 2025, 3 Rocks Engineering crew will be going door to door on the 700-1100 blocks of Macon Avenue, asking residents to either self-identify their water service line material or request that the 3 Rocks staff identify the water service line material where it enters the building foundation. All 3 Rocks Staff will have City-issued badges that can be used for identification. If unable to contact a resident, the next step will be to pothole or dig three feet from the property’s meter pit or curbstop.

This is being done in partnership with the City to identify the remaining water service lines that have an unknown material. This project is to comply with the State’s Lead and Copper Rule as it has become priority to remove lead service lines in the area.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact Travis Payne, Canon City Water Superintendent at [email protected] or call (719)269-9019.

UPDATED: Felines now included in Cañon City's animal cruelty ordinances

The Cañon City Council approved a municipal ordinance regarding cruelty to cats. At the July 21st meeting, Council Members approved on second reading the new ordinance. Part of it includes language that "it is unlawful for any person to knowingly, recklessly, or negligently torment, torture, needlessly mutilate, needlessly kill, deprive of necessary sustenance, unnecessarily or cruelly beat,
allow to be housed in a manner that results in or may reasonably result in physical harm, carry or confine in or upon any vehicles in a cruel or reckless manner or otherwise mistreat or neglect any cat, or causes or procures it to be done or, having the charge or custody of any cat, fail to provide it with proper food, drink, or protection from weather, or abandon a cat within the City.” The ordinance also makes it illegal to poison or attempt to poison a cat. If there is reasonable suspicion to believe there has been a violation of the ordinance, the cat may be taken by a Community Services
Officer (Animal Control) and impounded at the Humane Society.

This post serves as notice of a 30 day "educational" period to advise citizens of this ordinance. Enforcement will begin September 17th.

Questions or requests for more information concerning this new ordinance may be directed to the Community Services Unit at 719-276-5600, Option #3
