I have one more meeting November 10. I am happy it will be held at CCHS, so fitting because our school construction projects have been so much a part of my term.

This photo summarizes the honor I have felt in serving our schools and our community. This is the CCHS Mountain Bike Team we recognized at this week’s meeting. They are just ONE example of our district living our Beliefs and Mission.
Learning for Life: communication, resiliency, tenacity, agency, knowledge, civility, integrity
Future Focused: athletic skills they take in to life, healthy habits, and astounding community service (trail work earning them an award from the Colorado HIgh School Cycling League).

These are an example of our work to guide and develop Compassionate, Responsible, Independent, and Productive citizens. We need a bit more compassion in our world right now!!

In this photo is my daughter Megan who has been a volunteer coach and two granddaughters, Heidi and Hannah. They are all ‘products’ of Canon City Schools and I couldn’t be happier. (My other daughter Gretchen is in her 20th year teaching in Fort Collins), My children grew up through our schools, and I have had fabulous opportunities myself.

Thank you isn’t enough to capture my gratitude for all the stellar leadership now and in the past, for all the young minds/spirits I have had the good fortune to teach and learn from, and to all the supportive families. Please continue your support of the important work going on in our schools and departments every day. We move forward with commitment to Our Kids, Our Schools, and our Future. Onward!

Long one, no photo….

Last night our board meeting was held at the beautiful new conference room and gym at McKinley. Being in that beautiful new space I realize is time for me to reflect on all that has happened in my four years as a School Board Director. My term started with some rather contentious meetings and I am happy to say that none of what people were fearful of has happened. Our community has seen that we are Future Focused (always have been) and laser focused (always have been) on providing truly quality schools and learning. There is still work to do, there always is! Education is a moving target as we prepare students for their futures.

I have had the good fortune of working with remarkable leadership and a unified board. There will be no election, only two people submitted petitions and I support them completely. Todd Albrecht has been a joy to work with and will continue in his commitment to our students, staff, and families. Carla Braddy brings her experience as an educator and community advocate. (I taught Carla in first grade so it is a full circle experience that she takes my place on the board.)

I have a few more meetings to go and will be listing some of our accomplishments…..it has been an honor to be a part of Cañon City Schools….from classroom to board room. ❤️

Canon City High School (CCHS) is proud to announce its selection as one of 24 school systems participating in the Future of High School Network, a national initiative organized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching designed to catalyze learning, knowledge and impact to support a ‘new architecture’ for high school nationwide. This two-year partnership brings together 24 forward-thinking districts to reimagine high school. So many positive accomplishments this year—our staff, our students, and our remarkable leadership. Thank you to the families who support and encourage their kids every day to do the work of learning (it isn’t all work, a lot of it is really fun!). We are indeed fortunate to have the school system we have right here! Cañon Proud.

May is a busy month! We’ve been visiting all the schools and district sites to thank our educators and recognize years of service. We also regularly give Kudos at board meetings to recognize students and staff for outstanding accomplishments. Hard work goes in to every day of learning and growing. On to graduation today and another big celebration!
