Yesterday was a fun day spreading some girl power!

We got to celebrate Cassidy and Karolyn's successful completion of Fire 1&2 during last night's training. We're so proud of them for passing the state practical and written exams after eight months of classes and hard work.

We also got to meet up with the Mecosta Elementary girl scouts chapter to look at the big trucks, answer questions, and talk fire safety. The sweet treats they left us were a welcomed bonus. Thank you to their leadership for encouraging young girls' interest in the fire service!

Burning yard waste? Make sure to check out the new burn permit page. You can also call 866-922-BURN (866-922-2876).

Go to Michigan.gov/BurnPermit.

As always remember:
Keep your burn pile small (no larger than 3 feet in diameter).
Have a hose or other water source nearby.
Never leave a burn pile unattended, even for a moment.
Before you leave your fire, drench it with water, stir the ash and drench again. Make sure ashes are cool to the touch.

Check to see if conditions are safe for open burning.

Last night's training was all about forcing doors and getting access to emergency situations. From fire containment to medical emergencies- it's important that we have quick, safe, and efficient ways to enter buildings and residences. A huge thanks to our neighbors at Chippewa Martiny Fire Department for letting us borrow their forcible entry prop. It's such a blessing to have such great neighbors that we can work with!
