Another great update from a previous scholarship recipient Kara Miller! Great job Kara!

“All of my semesters I have kept a 4.0 gpa and have been on deans list as well. I recently joined the field hockey team at my school too and have been putting in a lot of effort for the sport. I have played field hockey for a long time and was recruited to other schools but did not end up going. This was a big change from my first year but it was the best. My favorite class this year was Microbiology and the lab that went with it. I am most excited for my next field hockey season and my next dietetics class.”

“I just finished my sophomore year at VTSU Castleton. I actually changed my major this year to Exercise Science Pre- Physical Therapy. I was originally Health Science, but after taking some classes I realized I have a strong interest in studying exercise. I am still on the field hockey team, while balancing good grades. Throughout this year I have learned to never give up when things get challenging. I’m excited for my Junior year coming up this fall!”

“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗢𝗨 👀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁?!?”

There are quite a few answers to this question which involves some pretty special *𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵* on Farmer Kate’s part. For those of you who aren’t familiar with chicken math, it’s when you are getting a few chickens 🐓 and then you decide that you definitely need more chickens 🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓 🐓 for some very clear and obvious reasons like: your husband won’t notice or there are only a few left and they would be lonely or this is the next price break so it only makes sense because it’s kind of like saving money. Right?????

And maybe that’s not quite all true when you have a chicken math issue year over year and suddenly you’re getting three dozen ➕ eggs a day.

“𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙖 𝙚𝙜𝙜𝙨?” you might ask. 🤔

Well, we donate them to Friends of Mascoma Foundation Friends Feeding Friends food pantries — a cause near and dear to our heart (Kate is a Founding Member and Director Emeritus).

Today we’re asking you to help donate during NH Gives, a 24-hour, statewide giving initiative that supports nonprofits around the state of NH with an extra marketing boost and prize incentives. Just a $5 donation will help provide scholarships for graduating Mascoma Valley Regional School District seniors, teacher and staff Mini-Grants, and support for 3 Food Pantries including one located right in the high school. FOM is going for “most donors” so consider donating more than once using a unique email (different email each time) and credit card. Your support could help them win an additional $5000 which is a big deal when you live in a small rural area. To help the fine team at FOM win a prize you must donate before 6 PM today.

Bonus: Anyone local who donates over $25 to FOM today will receive 1 dozen farm fresh eggs from our happy, healthy chickens (who also help keep leftover pantry veggies out of the landfill by converting them into more eggs). Snap an image of your receipt and message it to us to arrange pick up at the farm.
