To clarify plans for the July 4th Celebration:

Admission to all July 4th activities remains completely free, and parking will also be free for attendees.

The Town is working with a local nonprofit organization to assist with parking operations and traffic management to help ensure a safe and enjoyable event for everyone. The nonprofit’s services will be compensated directly by the Town.

We appreciate everyone’s support as we continue working to improve safety and traffic flow for our growing celebration.

Many of us are frustrated by the continued issue of tractor-trailers attempting to use Lambsburg Mountain and becoming stuck, creating delays and safety concerns for residents, emergency services, school buses, and the traveling public.

If this issue has affected you, I encourage you to contact the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and share your experience. The more documented reports they receive from citizens, the better they can understand the scope of the problem and evaluate potential solutions.

When contacting VDOT, be specific:• How often have you encountered stuck trucks?• How long were you delayed?• Did it impact your commute, business, emergency response, or school transportation?• What safety concerns did you observe?

Citizens can report concerns through the VDOT Customer Service Center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (1-800-367-7623) or through VDOT's online reporting system. VDOT also accepts requests for traffic and signage reviews.

This is not about blaming truck drivers. It is about finding a solution that works. If the current signage, GPS routing, enforcement, or traffic controls are not preventing these incidents, then we need to identify what additional measures may be necessary.

I will continue to advocate for our citizens and work with the appropriate agencies, but citizen input is often one of the strongest tools we have for demonstrating the need for action.

If you contact VDOT or have experienced this issue firsthand, please feel free to copy me at [email protected]. Real-world examples, photos, dates, times, and documented delays can help strengthen the case for additional action.

Governor of Virginia's Flag Order for Friday, June 5 in Memory and Respect of Carroll County Sheriff's Office Deputy Logan Utt

---

In accordance with the authority vested in me as Governor, I hereby order that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in memory and respect of Deputy Logan Utt of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, whose life of service, courage, and sacrifice exemplified the highest ideals of law enforcement and public service.

Deputy Utt faithfully served the citizens of Carroll County and the Commonwealth of Virginia with honor, integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others — a calling that began with his service as a volunteer firefighter with the Cana Volunteer Fire Department and continued through his service in the United States Air Force.

Following his military service, Deputy Utt joined the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, where his selfless spirit and unwavering dedication to the safety of the community earned him the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

On May 29, 2026, while responding to a welfare check in Carroll County, Deputy Utt made the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of his duties — giving his life while serving and protecting others.

Deputy Utt's actions illuminate the extraordinary courage and devotion to duty that define the law enforcement profession and demonstrated his willingness to place himself in harm's way for the protection of his community. His sacrifice serves as a solemn reminder of the risks faced daily by law enforcement public servants who stand watch over our communities.

My heart is with his wife and small children, who should know a grateful Commonwealth thanks him for his service and sacrifice.

I hereby order that the flags shall be lowered at sunrise on Friday, June 5, 2026, and remain at half-staff until sunset.

Ordered on this, the 3rd Day of June, 2026.
Sincerely,

Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor
