CORONER DANIEL T. COOK ELECTED TO KENTUCKY CORONERS ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Taylor County Coroner Daniel T. Cook has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Coroners Association (KCA) during the organization’s Annual Conference held this past week in Bowling Green.

In this role, Cook will serve as Co-Chair of the Mass Fatality Committee alongside Hardin County Coroner Pat Elmore. He will also serve on the Education/Training and Policy Committees.

Coroner Cook has been instrumental in advancing operations and administration within multiple organizations, while also contributing to improvements across the Commonwealth. His efforts have focused on increasing operational efficiency, expanding training opportunities, enhancing investigative techniques, and strengthening the overall effectiveness of the coroner’s office in serving the community.

The KCA Board of Directors is a 19-member body composed of elected coroners from across the state. The Board plays a critical role in supporting and providing accountability for death investigators statewide. It offers guidance on legislation related to coroner statutes and responsibilities, advises on educational curriculum and training standards, serves as a liaison to the Office of the State Medical Examiner, and provides ongoing support to all 120 Kentucky counties and their elected coroners and deputies.

Coroner Cook’s election reflects his continued commitment to advancing the profession, strengthening statewide collaboration, and ensuring the highest level of service to the citizens of Taylor County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Daniel T. Cook was first elected Taylor County Coroner in 2016 after previously serving as a Deputy Coroner. He brings more than 21 years of experience in emergency services and investigations. His office investigates an average of 150 to 200 deaths annually and employs four investigators and five transport technicians.

The Kentucky Coroner’s Association Annual Conference took place this week in Bowling Green, and Coroner Daniel T. Cook along with Deputy Michael Mardis were in attendance.

Over the course of two and a half days, they participated in extensive training covering critical topics such as overdose deaths, current drug trafficking trends, toxicology screenings, communication, leadership, and many other important updates impacting our profession.

Retired Clark County, Nevada Coroner, Mike Murphy was the highlight of the conference! His expertise, excitement and humor not only educated us but helped keep things exciting!

This year marked one of the largest conferences hosted by the association, bringing together coroners and deputy coroners from across the Commonwealth.

Opportunities like this are invaluable in ensuring our team remains well-trained, informed, and prepared to serve our community with professionalism and excellence.

Thank you to Deputies Mitchell, Parker and Webb for covering while we were away!
