Here are 2 fast ways you can protect your loved ones right now:

* Find your evac zone: Go to Protect.Genasys.com or download the app to find your evacuation zone. Here’s where you can see a map of area evacuations or search by an address.

When you prepare early, you keep your loved ones safe and help firefighters focus on saving lives during a major emergency.

YOUR MISSION

Pick one room in your home and check every door and window that could be used to get outside. Open and close each one. Make sure they work properly, aren’t blocked, and can be opened quickly if you need to get out.

WHY

In an emergency, your usual exit may be blocked. Checking doors and windows ahead of time helps ensure you have another safe way out when seconds count.

High thunderstorm risk this Friday August 28!

Red Flag Warning in effect from 5am Friday to 3pm Friday with isolated lightning strikes. Gusty outflow winds of 40 to 50mph with the strongest storms. Most likely area for thunderstorm activity across Central Coast and Santa Cruz Mountains. Be sure your emergency kit is ready and listen to local officials for any evacuation instructions.

Wildfires may get the most attention when they’re burning in the mountains, but fire doesn’t have to start in the hills to threaten a home. Grass fires, nearby structure fires, and wind-driven embers can all create risks for communities.
This workshop is a great opportunity to learn how creating an ember-resistant Zone 0 around your home can help reduce that risk, and to get practical advice directly from fire professionals.

This workshop is open to individuals who live or work within the communities served by Santa Clara County Fire Department: Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Monte Sereno, San Martin, Saratoga and the unincorporated surrounding areas

Join us for our final Wildfire Preparedness Workshop of the season on Thursday, August 27 at the City of Los Altos Community Center beginning at 6pm.

At this workshop, SCCFD experts will be available to provide guidance on California’s Zone 0 defensible space regulations approved by CAL FIRE yesterday, August 19.

Creating an ember-resistant zone within 0–5 feet of structures is now a key priority for reducing wildfire risk. Ask about:

- Navigating the phased implementation rollout for existing homes (Phases 1 & 2).

- Effective non-combustible materials (pavers, gravel, bare earth) to improve structural defense.

- Essential home maintenance tips to prevent wind-driven ember ignitions.

Representatives from United Policyholders , an independent nonprofit consumer advocacy group, will also be on hand to provide guidance and practical tips on navigating home insurance in the Wildland Urban Interface.
