HISTORY:
The Marine Corps Engineer School started in 1941 by providing four courses and now MCES provides instruction in 21 different programs of instruction in both the basic combat engineer and utilities engineer skill sets training approximately 2,000 Marines each year. Additionally, as the USMC proponent for C-IED and Defeat the Device training MCES provides training to approximately 50,000 pe

rsonnel annually in pre-deployment Counter-Improvised Explosive Device training in 6 different Counter-Implosive Explosive Devices (C-IED) Training Courses (CTC).

On 28 February 2025 in front of Marines, civilians, friends, and family Mr. Jesse J. Gentry, a civilian instructor with Utilities Instruction Company, retired after 23 years of honorable and faithful service that was spent both in military and civil service. Throughout his time at Marine Corps Engineer School he trained, taught, and mentored over five thousand Marines. Most recently, Mr. Gentry was instrumental in developing and streamlining the Utilities System Technician Program of Instruction which shortened the initial Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training time for newly designated 1164s. On December 4, 2024 Marine Corps Engineer School held its annual holiday party at Marston Pavilion for the permanent personnel Marines, Sailors, civilians, and their families. The annual holiday party is a time to socialize, build comradery, celebrate the holiday season, and participate in festive activities. Activities and events at the holiday party included: ugly sweater contest, cookie decorating, ornament making station, as well as photos with Santa Claus.

INNER STRENGTH FROM HIGHER PURPOSE! – U.S. Navy Lieutenant Chris Linzey, Marine Corps Engineer School Command Chaplain, leads a 3-mile Spiritual Fitness Run with Marines from Headquarters and Service Company. The event consisted of a pre-run discussion of what spiritual fitness means, mid-run discussion of how spiritual fitness can help Marines endure tough times and stay in the fight, and post-run discussion of what it means to lean on spiritual fitness to cross the finish line.

On March 19, 2024 Basic Electrician class 2-24 held their graduation ceremony at the Marine Corps Engineer School auditorium. The Marines completed forty-one days of training learning basic knowledge and skills required to provide electrical support to the Marine Corps. Marine Corps Electricians utilize the knowledge of electrical theory and concepts to install, operate, maintain, and repair underground, above ground, and tactical electrical power distribution systems. Additionally, electricians perform preventative maintenance checks and service and operate electrical power generation and distribution equipment. Upon successful completion of the course, the Marines earned the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 1141, Electricians. Congratulations to our new Electricians! On March 21, 2024 Combat Engineer Officer class 1-24 held their graduation ceremony at the Marine Corps Engineer School auditorium. The Marine officers completed one hundred and twelve days of training learning basic and supervisory level operational and planning skills in engineering related subjects pertaining to staff administration, mobility, countermobility, survivability, demolitions, reconnaissance, maintenance, and general engineering. Upon successful completion of the course, the Marines earn the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 1302, Combat Engineer Officer. Congratulations to our new Combat Engineer Officers! On March 14, 2024 Marine Corps Engineer School hosted the annual Engineer Field Meet at Courthouse Bay. The annual Engineer Field Meet is a time to foster camaraderie and positive competition amongst local engineer units while celebrating the Patron Saint. Teams participated in the following events: chariot race, water hose relay, five legged relay, backhoe loader pull, Blarney stone toss, stake driving rely, nail driving relay, cross cut relay, tug of war, find the rebar, dizzy izzy, bucket relay, and tire flip. This year’s winner was Marine Corps Engineer School. Thank you to the units that participated and for the Marines, Sailors, and civilians that came out to support the participants. On January 17, 2024 Basic Combat Engineer (BCE) class 2-24 held their graduation ceremony at the Marine Corps Engineer School auditorium. The Marines completed forty-three days of training learning the basics on Rigging Operations, Engineer Reconnaissance, Fell Standing Timber, Wood Frame Construction, Survivability Positions, Constructed Obstacles, Military Explosives/Specialized Explosives, Employ Expedient Explosive Charges/Obstacles, Operate Handheld Detectors, Obstacle Breaching, and Countering Explosive Hazards. Upon successful completion of the course, the Marines earn the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 1371, Combat Engineer. Congratulations to our new Combat Engineers!

On November 1 and 2, 2023 Combat Engineer Instruction Company, Headquarters and Service Company, and Utilities Instruction Company held their 248th United States Marine Corps Birthday Ball celebration for students in the Courthouse Bay Gym. The ceremony was executed by the staff and officers of Marine Corps Engineer School and officer students of Combat Engineer Officer class 1-24.
