PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE CRIMINALS

CRIMINALS that are fed lose not only their natural fear of LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS, but also their ability to survive/work on their own.

Please protect yourself, your family and your property -

Early Friday morning (09/19/2025) several night crawling criminals unlawfully entered multiple vehicles in Kingwood, Cammack and Heights neighborhoods- stealing, guns, cash, credit cards and ultimately a pickup truck.

Citizens are unwittingly rewarding criminals, by carelessly leaving valuable property in their vehicles

Officers are committed to apprehending those responsible and keeping our community safe.

But PLEASE do your part- do no leave property in your vehicles.

Criminals operate on a "reward vs. risk" basis. If they consistently find valuable items in vehicles, the reward for their crime is high, and they will likely return to the same location.

If you see suspicious people or vehicles, contact police Immediately (CVPD 663-8267)

Video footage would be helpful and we are asking residents to check their home surveillance cameras and report any unusual activity between the hours of 0300 to 500 am. This footage may assist in the identification and prosecution of suspects

It might seem like a harmless style choice, but the tint on your car windows could be illegal — and even dangerous

Cammack Village Police announced it is launching an enforcement campaign targeting illegal dark window tint and license plate coverings on vehicles.

“We’re seeing more and more people tinting their entire windshield, and that’s illegal — you just can’t do it; it’s like driving with sunglasses on, it’s not safe at night or in bad weather, ” said Cammack Chief Peter Powell .

Cammack Police stated the campaign’s goal is to ensure compliance with state law and enhance public safety.

Concerns about the dangers of excessively darkened windows, which impair visibility for drivers, pedestrians, and law enforcement officers, prompted this initiative.

Additionally, in hit-and-run incidents, obscured license plates hinder vehicle identification, complicating investigations and delaying justice for victims.

“Maintaining proper visibility on the roadways is paramount,” emphasized Chief Powell . “Dark window tints can significantly reduce a driver’s ability to see clearly, especially at night or in adverse weather conditions. This not only endangers the driver and passengers but also poses a serious threat to pedestrians and other motorists.”

Chief Powell also highlighted how illegal window tint can hinder law enforcement officers’ ability to conduct traffic stops safely. “When officers are unable to see inside a vehicle due to excessively dark window tint, it creates a potential officer safety concern. Traffic stops are a critical aspect of ensuring public safety, and obstructed visibility increases the risk for both officers and motorists.”

Chief Powell noted that dark window tint and license plate covers can greatly impede the ability of witnesses in hit-and-run incidents to identify the vehicle and responsible driver.

“In cases where a vehicle with illegal tint and license plate covers are involved, these obstructions make it extremely challenging for witnesses to accurately identify the driver or obtain crucial vehicle identifying information.”

Arkansas law 27-37-306 mandates specific light transmission requirements for window tint: Front side windows must have a light transmission of at least 25%, side windows behind the driver at least 10 percent, Window tint on the top portion of the windshield is permissible if it doesn’t extend more than five inches down.

A front windshield cannot be fully tinted. Officers will also enforce laws against illegal license plate covers, per Arkansas law 27-14-716, which mandates that license plates must be clearly visible, and prohibits placing any type of cover over a license plate which makes the license plate more difficult to read or which reduces the reflective properties of the license plate.

Note: Consult Cammack Police, if you have specific questions about Arkansas's window tint law. If you question the legality of the window tint on your vehicle, come by the police department and officers be glad to assist you in testing your window tinting (without issuing a citation).

Officers are interested in promoting voluntary compliance, rather than issuing citations.

Let’s all work together to keep Cammack Village streets safe, by keeping your view clear.

What are you doing to protect yourself and your property ?

It takes less than 30 seconds to break into a car, grab what is in plain view, check the usual hiding places for other items, and get away.

How long would it take you to secure your valuables out of sight? Even less time!

Motor vehicle theft /Auto Burglary is a “crime of opportunity.”

Thieves see an opening and they take advantage of it.

If you leave a gun in the vehicle, that’s a gun on the street that will be used against you (law abiding citizen) or used to commit other violent crimes.

Last Night 09/08/2025 at 0400 in the morning -these three suspects were breaking into vehicles and even stole a vehicle in the Echo Valley neighborhood.

Officers are committed to apprehending those responsible and keeping our community safe.

If you see suspicious people or vehicles, please contact police Immediately (CVPD 663-8267 or LRPD 371-4829).

Already thinking ahead to the weekend?

Labor Day Weekend driving fatalities remain alarmingly high. Discover how dangerous U.S. roads are during the holiday and why this long weekend rivals July 4th in deadly crashes.

Labor Day faces intensified risks on American roads.
Every year, millions of Americans set off on highways for barbecues, beach outings, and family reunions. But the same roads that promise summer escape can turn lethal. For many, Labor Day marks the end of summer.

For traffic safety experts, it signals the second most dangerous weekend of the year. New estimates from the National Safety Council put the 2024 toll at 457 traffic deaths, with a 90 percent confidence range between 365 and 487. That makes Labor Day weekend nearly as dangerous as July 4th, the deadliest holiday for U.S. drivers.

What makes the long weekend so perilous? Traffic volume rises as families travel, alcohol consumption increases, and drivers take more risks. The results are sobering: preventable crashes, grieving families, and numbers that stubbornly refuse to improve year after year.

Drunk driving is 100 percent preventable, so please do your part to ensure everyone has a safe holiday weekend and make alternate plans if you are consuming alcohol.

Officerss across the state will be out in numbers working to enforce traffic laws and keep our state and roads safe

Safe Travels.

Public schools in the Little Rock area will start back Monday 08/11/2025.

Cammack Village is home to Jefferson Elementary.

School days bring congestion: Yellow school buses are picking up students, kids on bikes are hurrying to get to school before the bell rings, parents are trying to drop their kids off before work.

It's never more important for drivers to slow down and pay attention than when kids are present – especially before and after school.

Chief Peter Powell wants the citizens to know that with school back in session next week, Officers will be out looking for traffic violations, focusing on enforcing safety in our schools’ zones and around school bus stops. Particularly as it relates to speeding and distracted driving.

When traveling in school zones take extra care to look out for children. Never block a crosswalk or pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians. Children can be unpredictable, be sure to follow speed limits set within the school zone. Slowing down a little can give you the extra time needed to react to a hazard such as a child in the roadway.

If you are not dropping off or picking up children at Jefferson, between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:00 am and from 2:00 till 3:30pm, you should avoid this area if possible because it is heavily congested.

Police are reminding motorists to be cautious because students will be walking, riding bicycles and waiting at bus stops.

Drivers-

• The school speed limit is 20 MPH on N. McKinley from Hawthorne to Brentwood. Slower speeds provide for more reaction time for unexpected actions by children.

• Do not pass school buses that have lights flashing and the stop sign extended.

• Pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks and intersections.

• No passing in School zones.

Arkansas law requires all children 14 years of age or younger to be restrained by a seat belt - in either the front seat or back seat of a vehicle. Children 6 years of age and younger or children less than 60 pounds are required to be restrained in a child safety seat.

Officers will be strictly enforcing the speed limit, as well as the laws requiring drivers to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.

Drivers should also be aware that Arkansas law prohibits drivers from using a handheld phone for talking, texting, or using their device for social networking while driving in a school zone.

Cammack Village Police have always been committed to keeping the students and staff of Jefferson Elementary safe and will continue to do everything within our power to maintain public safety.

With a little patience and following these simple instructions, we can work together to keep our children safe.

Your support and attention to school zone safety is greatly appreciated.
