Camillus Volunteer Fire Department The Camillus Volunteer Fire Dept was established in 1909 The Camillus Volunteer Fire Department was organized on December 29, 1909.

A membership of 35 men elected William Kelsey as their first chief. The equipment was a hand drawn hose cart and a hook and ladder. This was later replaced by a mechanized truck and a Sanford truck. Today the department has Truck 8, Engine 4, Engine 5 and Squad 2 as well as three 2005 Chevrolet Suburban chief vehicles. The first Camillus Fire Department station was located on North Street in the V

illage of Camillus. It was a former blacksmith shop, The department then moved across the street to Main Street where the old Town Hall is located. Later they moved into what is currently the office of the Village of Camillus and DPW. Then in 1993 the department moved to its current location 5801 Newport Road. Just outside of the Village of Camillus. The fire district covers 16.45 square miles with 10,515 acres to be protected with a roster of 50 members. In January of 1910 the department joined Onondaga County Volunteer Firemen's Association. In May 1910 the regulation uniform was set with white shirt and pants, dark tie and belt along with white caps that had dark peals. the uniform cost $13.00 each in June 1911. Today our uniform consists of dark navy pants, white shirts, dark navy tie, dark shoes and belts, and dark navy hats with Silver braid. Our Event Hall is available for your next special occasion. With a maximum capacity of 50 guests ( due to Covid restrictions ) , our event hall is great for wedding receptions, anniversaries, graduation parties, birthday parties, business meetings, or corporate functions. Kitchen/Hall Rental:$500.00 plus deposit of $100.00 (returned if kitchen/ hall left in pre-rental condition)
Hall Rental: $250.00 plus deposit of $100.00 (returned if hall left in pre-rental condition)

Today Mayor Eric Adams and Acting Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh announced the death of Firefighter Timothy Klein, 31, of Ladder Company 170, a six-year veteran of the Department. Firefighter Klein responded to a 3–alarm fire at 108-26 Avenue N in Brooklyn earlier this afternoon and was critically injured in a collapse inside the building while he was bravely fighting the fire.

Firefighter Klein is the 1,157th member of the FDNY to die in the line-of-duty. The last member of the Department to die in the line of duty was Firefighter Jesse Gerhard, who died on February 16, 2022. Funeral arrangements are pending.

CONGRATULATIONS to our own Lieutenant Beth Handler for handling the pressure and rising to the task, handling the Media this week at the Mattydale Fire Station for the Syracuse area FASNY RecruitNY Press Conference where she was a guest speaker and most would say she was quite impressive. Lieut. Handler is also the Chairperson for todays Recruitment Open House at the Fire Station with tons of things happening. So stop by and meet Beth, shake her hand, she's a firefighter/EMT and has been doing this for 10 years now!

The Sign outside our Station should be advertising the Recruitment Open House at our Station on Sunday, April 24th from 11am - 3:00 pm but the sign changer must be on vacation.
Anyway, tons of activities are planned, including the OCVFA fire safety education trailer, Camillus PD, WAVES Ambulance, FREE COVID-19 HOME TEST kits to any adult who stops by the recruitment table, a B-B-QUE food truck and more. STOP BY, we're looking for more than firefighters.

EVERYONE IS IRISH ON ST. PADDYS DAY!!

Camillus Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a very Irish Corned Beef Dinner on March 17th from 3pm until sold out. It is take out only, drive around back of the fire station to pick up your order. We will deliver to the elderly or disabled in the Village.
OK, here's the deal,
Cost is $12.00, It includes, Corned Beel, Cabbage, Carrots, 12oz can of soda or bottled water as well as carrot cake for desert or for diabetics we have President Hutchins famous sugar free eclairs.

While YOU were having dinner Monday evening, YOUR Camillus Volunteer firefighters were hard at work clearing snow around fire hydrants throughout the village and fire district. THANK YOU to our residents who had already done so at their nearest hydrant.
It's sometimes tough to maintain in our long CNY winters, but let's do the simple math....You need the fire department, an Engine Company arrives carrying 500
gallons of water as firefighters start attacking the fire with a hose that can flow 125 gallons per minute sooooo (Jeopardy tune please), YES, that's right, figures out that there's about 4 minutes before you better have water flowing from your hydrant. Would you want to watch your property burn and wait an extra 4 minutes while firefighters shovel snow at your nearest snow buried hydrant?
