Thanks for the mention, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution!

Many sites across the state that were important during the modern civil rights movement have met the 50-year threshold for historic consideration in recent years, but finding the money to save the crumbling buildings is a challenge.

GBWNH, INC. continues to ask Ms. Bea's Babies to do a 5minute video interviewing your mother on her experience at Ms. Bea's place when giving birth to your child or children. You can do it with the touch of your cell phone. Let us know:

2. How many children did you give birth to at the shelter?

Earlier this month the National Park Service awarded $16.2 million in African American Civil Rights grants that will benefit 44 projects in 15 states and support the continued preservation of sites and history related to the African American struggle for equality.
We are thrilled to see that among the sites receiveing funding are four places recently listed on the 11 Most Endangered Historic Places in America list: Historic Brown Chapel AME Church in Selma, AL (2022); Georgia B Williams Restoration Project in Camilla, GA (2021); The Riverside Hotel in Clarksdale, MS (2021); and Pine Grove Rosenwald School near Richmond, VA (2011).
Also on the list are three recent recipients of HBCU Cultural Heritage Stewardship Initiative funding through the National Trust's African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund: Rust College in Holly Springs, MS (2022); Shaw University in Raleigh, NC (2022); and Benedict College in Columbia, SC (2021).

It's and we need your support! Here is FIVE reasons to give to the Georgia B Williams Restoration Project:
(1) The project will preserve the home of third generation African-American midwife Beatrice Borders.
(2) Over 6,000 babies can trace their roots to their birth in this home.
(3) The historic rehab of Borders' home will mean the creation of a museum honoring the southern African-American midwife.
(4) The Georgia B. Williams Nursing Home is one of the nation's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places according to the National Trust for Historic Preservation
(5) You're supporting the grassroots efforts of a handful of dedicated individuals in rural southwest Georgia to ensure the legacy and home of Beatrice Borders is not lost.
