From Maine Water Company:

Maine Water Company will soon (June 22) begin a project replacing the water main in the Blake Street area neighborhood in Camden. Water main replacement projects are a fundamental building block of our mission to provide high-quality, reliable drinking water for our customers.

This project consists of replacing ~600 feet of 2-inch main that is 96 years old with 2-inch main on Blake Street from Mount Battie Street to Bisbee Street. The project will begin with crews in the area on June 22 and drilling slated to begin June 25, and will last for approximately one month once construction begins.

During construction, neighborhood water service will be impacted by this project for short periods of time. We will give residents a day's notice of any known interruption in their water service. We expect that water service will be shut down for less than eight hours and we will get customers back in service as quickly as possible.

Please use caution in the construction work zone. The project area will present hazards such as open trenches, roadway depressions, loose pavement, or bumps that require caution. Our contractor will take all required safety measures to ensure the work area is safe, including appropriate signs, barricades and traffic control. Traffic will be affected and will be restricted to local traffic only. We understand that construction zones present an unusual attraction, especially to children, and we ask you to avoid any open excavations and take all necessary precautions if you visit the project area.

The purpose of this work is to replace the aging infrastructure that has a high break history. This will also improve water quality and flows in the area. Feel free to call our office if you have any questions about the project. I can be reached at 207-691-5102 or call Maine Water Customer Service at 1-800-287-1643. Thank you for your cooperation during this construction project.

Sincerely,
Tom Parra
Camden/Rockland Division Superintendent

Thank you to those who attended the Tannery Park Community Planning Workshop on May 17, as well as to those who participated in the Tannery Park Community Planning Survey. Survey results are in! (Click here to read them: https://cms8.revize.com/revize/camdenmaine/Tannery%20Park/2026_Tannery%20Park%20Survey%20Results.pdf?t=202606081021170&t=202606081021170 )

Workshop organizers have met with town staff, including the planning and parks and recreation directors, to share the results and to discuss how to move this forward to action.

Already, as a result of the enthusiastic community turnout at the workshop, the Town of Camden and CamdenCAN are partnering on an application to the state for Tannery Park for engineering support for the park enhancements through 30% design. Richardson and Associates is also coordinating next steps with Camden Parks and Rec to provide additional design services for the community.

The goal is to translate the data and input from the workshop into a viable site plan to stimulate fundraising and help direct early works to enhance and green Tannery Park. More details will be posted as they become available.
