Tutu, Strand Theatre, Friday, September 18, 8:15pm

In 2000, two journalists were granted access to Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his family for a TV documentary that was never made. Decades later, Sam Pollard crafts this unseen footage into a vivid portrait of moral courage and the global movement to end apartheid in South Africa. Despite drawing death threats and the ire of powerful world leaders, Tutu never waivers from his infectious laughter and spiritual conviction that “when people decide to be free, nothing can stop them.”

Boatbuilders, Camden Opera House, Thursday, September 17, 7:30pm

Don't miss this gem of an opening night film at Camden International Film Festival! Across four seasons, the skilled craftspeople of Maine’s Brooklin Boat Yard meticulously transform planks of Douglas fir, mahogany, and cedar into a 56-foot wooden sailboat—both a fading, time-honored tradition and a delicate business to manage. Sundance award-winning director Luke Lorentzen mirrors their patience, presence, and attention to detail in a reflection on the pride and value of labor that culminates in a breathtaking maiden voyage.
