ICYMI: My Camden County Serves Up Kindness Tour continues at Verona Ristorante Italiano in Downtown Haddonfield!

Fun Fact: Owner Andrew Bodi and his family are generous supporters of the annual Haddonfield Souper Bowl, which I started while serving as Mayor of the Borough of Haddonfield. The Souper Bowl raises awareness about the food insecurity that many of our neighbors face, celebrates the work of Cathedral Kitchen staff & volunteers, and fundraises to help with rising demand & increasing costs.

What else do I love about Verona? The staff truly treats guests like family. One example? Earlier this year they noticed Luca’s always reading Percy Jackson (or something by Rick Riordan), so they took the time to recommend similar YA reads to him for summer. As a busy mom trying to make time for family dinners, set screen time boundaries for my tween, and encourage his reading habit, this small act of kindness meant so much to me. And so, this Countywide tour was born, all thanks to Verona!

Today we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new location of our Camden County Office of Veterans Affairs (OVA)!

This move to 1 Collier Drive in Blackwood is in direct response to feedback from our veterans and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing accessible, compassionate, confidential assistance to our Veterans and their families. Adjacent to our Lakeland complex, this new location also makes it more convenient to connect with wraparound services & additional resources from our County Deptartments and other agencies.

We look forward to welcoming all CamCo Veterans to the new OVA!

🇺🇸And don’t forget: August is “Make a Will Month!” Our OVA now provides free wills, power of attorneys & healthcare directives to all veterans and military service members. Yesterday we welcomed NJEDA CEO Evan Weiss aboard the Battleship New Jersey to celebrate an extraordinary investment of over $24M via the Cultural Arts Facilities Expansion (CAFE) program.

I was humbled to sit among the many veterans in attendance, as well as the visionary leaders who fought to bring the Battleship to Camden nearly 3 decades ago, and all those who’ve continued to volunteer, advocate, and educate, ensuring that future generations will be able to visit.

Celebrating National Night Out in two of our beautiful Camden County municipalities: Magnolia & Somerdale!

Many thanks to Mayor George Badey and Mayor BettyAnn Cowling-Carson for welcoming me to your boroughs tonight! And most importantly, thank you to the LEOs, EMTs and FFs who devote your lives to protecting and serving our neighbors.

From “touch a truck” + bounce houses to frozen treats + face painting, there was something for everyone to enjoy tonight. And thanks to the staff & volunteers from local nonprofits like Center for Family Services, our own CamCo Health Dept., and even New Jersey Transit, neighbors were able to connect with helpful resources while getting to know their local law enforcement & first responders.
