You officially have plans now. We don’t make the rules. Actually, we kind of do for this post! 😁

Join us THIS Saturday, June 27th, for the Madison Township Fire Department Freedom Festival on East Landersdale Road in Camby.

We’re kicking things off with the Freedom Celebration Car Show from 9 AM to 3 PM, featuring classic cars, custom trucks, Jeeps, hot rods, awards, door prizes, and enough polished chrome to make your sunglasses question their darkness!

Then at 4 PM, the Freedom Festival gets rolling with food, vendors, family fun, and fireworks at dusk. That means you can look at cool cars, eat something delicious, let the kids burn off enough energy to sleep like a rock, and then watch the sky do patriotic boom-boom activities.

It’s family-friendly. It’s community-focused. It supports your local fire department. And frankly, it beats sitting at home pretending you’re “just going to watch one more video.” 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

We want to take a quick moment to share some important information.

If you’ve followed our page for any amount of time, you know we like to have fun and show the human side of the fire service. But there are also times when we need to share serious information, and this is one of those times!

Central Indiana is expected to see the potential for strong to severe storms this evening. We know there are a lot of forecasts, opinions, and weather posts floating around, but our goal is simple: help you prepare for any storm.

Forecasts can change, and nobody knows exactly what will happen in every location. The best thing you can do is stay prepared, stay weather-aware, and take warnings seriously if issued.

Here are a few things to consider before storms arrive:

⚠️ Know your safe place before the warning. Go to the lowest level of your home, in an interior room, away from windows. A closet, bathroom, or basement is much better than standing outside or in the living room watching the storm.

⚠️ Have more than one way to receive warnings. Outdoor sirens are meant to warn people who are outside. Make sure Wireless Emergency Alerts are turned on, and have a weather app, local media, or a NOAA Weather Radio ready.

⚠️ Secure loose outdoor items. Trash cans, patio furniture, flags, trampolines, tents, and yard decorations can become airborne if strong winds move through.

⚠️ Charge your phone and power banks. Have flashlights ready and avoid using candles if the power goes out.

⚠️ Do not drive through flooded roads. Heavy rain can quickly flood roads, especially in low-lying areas. Turn around, don’t drown.

⚠️ Storm-Related Apartment Fire ⚠️

Shortly before 11 p.m. last night, the Madison Township Fire Department was dispatched to the 5000 block of East Orchard Road for a reported apartment fire.

First-arriving crews found fire showing from the roof and upgraded the incident to a working fire. As storms moved through the area, a tree limb brought down power lines onto the roof, damaging a utility pole and causing arcing wires from a light pole. That chain of events led to a fire in the apartment building's attic.

Thankfully, everyone inside was able to evacuate safely, and no residents were injured. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and has since been released.

Crews had the fire under control in roughly one hour.

We want to use this as an important reminder to check your smoke detectors. Working smoke detectors save lives and can give you the time you need to get out safely.

Hey fam…. It’s going to be hotter than new love today. Make sure you wear your deodorant; the cashier at Dollar General has already been through enough!

While you’re out and about, make sure to drink plenty of water, and it probably wouldn’t hurt to throw in some electrolytes, too!

The kids have been yelling “SIX SEVEN” like it unlocks a secret level at recess, and after extensive research, interviews, and staring blankly into the abyss, we have determined that it means… ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

So in honor of 6/7, here are 6 or 7 safety tips, because apparently numbers are vibes now:

1. Check your smoke alarms.
2. Don’t leave the grill unattended unless you want dinner with a side of flashing red lights.
3. Hydrate before your body starts sending “low battery” alerts.
4. Don’t plug 67 things into one outlet. That power strip is tired, boss. Let it rest before it turns into a spicy noodle.
5. Keep candles away from curtains, pets, and chaotic little hands.
6. Wear sunscreen. Lobster is a food group, not a skin tone.
7. And for the love of everything holy, have a plan if something goes wrong.

Stay safe. Stay hydrated. And if your kid says “six seven” 47 times today, just know we’re praying for you!

Before you inhale a glazed donut in the parking lot like a raccoon with Wi-Fi, give us 30 seconds of your frosting-covered attention. 🍩

We know today is about donuts, but since we’re the fire department, we can’t let you enjoy fried dough in peace without sprinkling in a few safety tips. So please enjoy these 6 Do-Nut Safety Tips before your kitchen, car, or decision-making enters its villain era.

🍩 Do-Nut leave food cooking unattended.
Your smoke alarm is not cheering you on. It is screaming because your pizza rolls have entered their final form.

🍩 Do-Nut throw water on a grease fire.
Unless your goal is to recreate a low-budget action movie in your kitchen with you as the villain.

🍩 Do-Nut overload power strips.
That outlet has two holes, not hopes and dreams. Stop plugging in the entire county fair!

🍩 Do-Nut use your oven for storage.
That is not a cabinet where you keep that Tupperware collection from QVC. One accidental preheat, and you’ve made a costly science experiment!

🍩 Do-Nut drive through flooded roads.
Your Kia is not a kayak. Your truck is not a bass boat. Your confidence is not a flotation device!

🍩 Do-Nut ignore your smoke alarm when it chirps.
That little beep at 2 a.m. is not a ghost, a government signal, or your fridge learning Morse code. Change the battery!

Eat the donut. Fear the grease fire. Respect the smoke alarm. Hydrate regularly, you powdered-sugar goblin.

📣 Calling ALL Vendors!

As many of you already know, our Freedom Festival is quickly approaching, and this is your opportunity to sign up as a vendor!

We already have several amazing vendors lined up, and we would love to add a few more to help make this year’s event even better.

The Madison Township Freedom Festival will take place on Saturday, June 27. The car show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the festival kicks off at 4 p.m. and runs until the fireworks at dusk.

The event is free to attend, and there will be food trucks, vendors, bounce houses, a car show, fireworks, and plenty of fun for the whole family.

Over the past couple of days, you may have noticed a few unusually parked vehicles in the lot at Station 31 off Kitchen Road. Don’t worry, they were supposed to be there.

All three shifts have been completing vehicle extrication training, working through several realistic scenarios that firefighters could face on an emergency scene. Training like this allows our crews to build on the basics, sharpen their skills, and stay prepared for those moments when every second matters.

Vehicle crashes can be complex, and each one presents its own challenges. Having the opportunity to train with real vehicles gives our crews valuable hands-on experience in stabilizing vehicles, operating extrication tools, and safely removing patients from dangerous situations.

A huge thank you to Mooresville Towing for donating the vehicles, delivering the cars to our firehouse, and hauling them away. Partnerships like this help make realistic training possible, and we truly appreciate their support.
