Over the past couple of days, you may have noticed a few unusually parked vehicles in the lot at Station 31 off Kitchen Road. Don’t worry, they were supposed to be there.

All three shifts have been completing vehicle extrication training, working through several realistic scenarios that firefighters could face on an emergency scene. Training like this allows our crews to build on the basics, sharpen their skills, and stay prepared for those moments when every second matters.

Vehicle crashes can be complex, and each one presents its own challenges. Having the opportunity to train with real vehicles gives our crews valuable hands-on experience in stabilizing vehicles, operating extrication tools, and safely removing patients from dangerous situations.

A huge thank you to Mooresville Towing for donating the vehicles, delivering the cars to our firehouse, and hauling them away. Partnerships like this help make realistic training possible, and we truly appreciate their support.

Overwhelming. Humbling. Speechless.

That is about the only way we can describe the past 48 hours!

Our deer rescue post has traveled far beyond our friends here in central Indiana. In fact, it has spread worldwide. We have received media inquiries from Los Angeles to New York, and even as far away as the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, and Australia!

We have heard from The Weather Channel, NBC News, ABC News, Fox News, several large social media pages, and most importantly, our local news stations right here in central Indiana!

On top of that, the love, support, and kind words this story has received has been incredible! Unfortunately, things have been so overwhelming that we will not be able to thank everyone individually. Please let this serve as one giant THANK YOU.

We are also happy to report that the baby deer, whom we have been calling “Halligan” or “Hali” for short, is doing very well. We are hoping to share an update on her very soon.

While we have your attention, especially with all of our new friends here, we want to remind you to check your smoke alarm batteries.

Smoke alarms save lives.

Thank you again for the support, the love, the kind messages, and for helping Hali’s story travel further than we ever imagined!

Shortly after 3 p.m. this afternoon, the Madison Township Fire Department was dispatched to the 13000 block of North Mann Road for a water rescue.

First-arriving units found a vehicle in the water with one occupant still inside. The driver was able to return to land without assistance from firefighters.

While crews were clearing the scene, they heard a baby deer being carried downstream in the rapidly rising water. Captain Joe Sinclair entered the water and rescued the deer, bringing it safely back to shore. Medics on scene provided aid until the deer could be transferred to a local animal rescue.

At the time of this post, North Mann Road remains underwater and impassable.

Please do not drive through flooded roadways. Water can be deeper and faster-moving than it appears. If you see water over the road, turn around, don’t drown.

Today, we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend. It is a day set aside to honor the brave Americans who never made it home, the families who carry their memory, and the freedoms protected by their sacrifice. Their courage is woven into the fabric of every community, including ours.

From all of us at Madison Township Fire Department, we remember them, we honor them, and we are forever grateful.

May we never forget the cost of freedom.

Madison Township Fire Department, along with several surrounding agencies, was dispatched to the 10,000 block of North Mann Road just before 1:30 this afternoon for reports of a possible residential fire.

When crews arrived, they could see heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the residence. Crews made entry and worked to extinguish the fire. Due to the rural area, tankers had to be used to shuttle water to the scene from the closest hydrant. The fire was determined to be fully extinguished within one hour and 45 minutes. While checking the structure, one dog and two cats were located. CPR was performed on the dog and one cat that was still alive. Despite their efforts, the dog did not survive. The cat was transported by the family to a local animal hospital with life-threatening injuries. No people were injured by the fire. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.

The structure, while partially saved, sustained heavy damage. The cause of the fire has been ruled electrical in nature. No other information is available at this time.

Hey friends! Memorial Day weekend is here, and with the Indy 500 on Sunday, here is your reminder:

Your neighborhood is not IMS!
State Road 67 is not the front stretch!
Your minivan is not secretly on pole!

Enjoy the weekend, but be smart:

Drive sober.
Keep an eye on the grill.
Watch kids around water.
Drink actual water.

Leave the risky passes to our friends at the Morgan County Sheriff's Office - Indiana!

We want you enjoying the weekend, not meeting us because Uncle Randy tried to qualify for the Indy 500 after two burgers and a “watch this.”

To all of our new family, welcome! We’re glad you’re here.

Since this page is apparently heating up, here’s your fire safety tip: the only thing we want catching fire is our follower count. Check your smoke alarms, don’t overload outlets, and keep anything flammable away from candles, stoves, and grills.

Thanks for following along, laughing with us, learning with us, and letting us be part of your feed!
