This temporary park—the size of a parking spot—first popped up in Huron Village, a neighborhood of Cambridge, Mass., on International Park[ing] Day, Sept. 20, 2013, focusing on Fresh Pond, particularly algae. Another iteration of the park happened Saturday, May 10th, in Greene-Rose Heritage Park in Cambridge'

s neighborhood called The Port. It provided microscopes for viewing water, soil, and plant material samples from all over Cambridge, and volunteer guides to the tiny world of urban nature here. On Park(ing) Day 2016, the park popped up again, this time in front of the Porter Exchange on Mass.

We’ll just put this here since we were (when we were a pop-up park) roughly in the business of “place-making.” Is all “place-making” good? “Funky” Stuff isn’t the same as making places where people have community and feel that they are in, and of, and served by, and have agency in, their own neighborhoods.
