Speakers' Circle in Cambridge, Mass.

Speakers' Circle in Cambridge, Mass. Modeled after the centuries-old Speakers' Corner in London's Hyde Park, this weekly event lets anyone express their opinion and be heard on any topic.

This is a free, public weekly event celebrating the open, if often irreverent, exchange of ideas. It is intended to run without leaders. Because participants will be exercising their First Amendment rights, their right to speak cannot be curtailed by the government – but neither is this an official, sponsored event.

Speakers’ Circle is on hiatus for a while as we focus on finding the person to more effectively organize the event and really lock in the tradition. If you're that person – a good organizer with time to spare on connecting with creative people and doing some publicity – please connect with us here or through the Twitter account at .

As soon as the Cambridge municipal elections are done (voting is Nov. 3), we're going to get back to posting some videos from the past couple events in Harvard Square, and we might highlight some free speech issues locally and nationwide. And we're likely to be back in The Pit come spring.

But just because the initial organizers of Speakers’ Circle aren't there at 11 a.m. to noon Sundays doesn't mean Speakers’ Circle doesn't go on. It’d be great if people just jumped up to share their thoughts regardless. That is, after all, the point.

See you soon!

Did we mention that that speech is free at Speakers’ Circle in more ways that one? Not only is anyone free to speak their mind at this event (civilly) to willing, engaged listeners, but it also takes place free of charge – even when accomplished, professional spoken word artists such as Art Collins and Neiel Israel are the ones doing the talking. Come at 11 a.m. Sunday (tomorrow) rain or shine to The Pit in for the final before a winter hiatus.

Speakers Circle is heading off to a hiatus after this coming Sunday's incredible final event at 11 a.m. Oct. 25 in Harvard Square. How do we know it'll be incredible? Because poet/educators Art Collins and Neiel Israel will be speaking. We'd be lucky to have one, and we have both.

Neiel Israel (http://neielisrael.com) "seems to channel a force larger than herself, orating with an assured, unique energy," The Harvard Crimson says (http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2015/3/3/neiel-israel-spoken-spotlight/). See an example of her work at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsC0Li4S6LQ.

Art Collins works with kids in Boston Public Schools by day and has helped host the award-winning Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam and Slam Sunday evenings at The Lizard Lounge. See his work at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A2ZSuF2e_c and you'll understand why he's one of the few poets who might come out ahead of Neiel Israel at a slam event.

Come out, rain or shine, for the last Speakers Circle before the winter hiatus.

About: Neiel Israel is an internationally acclaimed poet, vocalist, and arts educator. Emerging from the Boston spoken-word scene, she quickly distinguished herself as a powerful, and lyrical poetic voice. With her captivating voice she became a member of the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 Lizard Loung…

Let's pause for a week and let everyone enjoy Honk! in , the Honk! parade and Oktoberfest in . Of course, anyone who's in Harvard Square for Oktoberfest and feels like getting up and saying something – to the accompaniment of a band – will find many people around to serve as a potential audience. Have a great weekend! If anyone decides to speak (even without the Speakers' Circle sign) post to us and let us know! Send us photos and videos if you have it, too.
