This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate all of the incredible Public Safety Telecommunicators in Henry County during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Behind every emergency response is a calm, steady voice answering the call, gathering information, providing pre-arrival instructions, and ensuring help is on the way. Our telecommunicators are the first, first responders, providing lifesaving guidance, compassion, and professionalism in moments that matter most.

Their work is often unseen, but never unappreciated. The strength it takes to handle difficult calls, the dedication to serve others, and the commitment to excellence each and every day make a lasting impact on our community.

To our Public Safety Telecommunicators at the Henry County Sheriffs Office, Kewanee Police Department, and Geneseo, Illinois Police Department: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering dedication to keeping our residents safe. We are grateful for you not just this week, but every day.

Spring Storm Season is Upon Us

It seems every year there are complaints, questions, and concerns surrounding the sounding of storm sirens in the area.

There are multiple reasons the may sounded in a storm event. These include:

•An active Tornado Warning

•Hail greater sized than a Golf Ball

•Winds in excess of 70 MPH

In all of these situations the storm warning sirens will sound when Geneseo is listed as an affected community. These determinations are made by the National Weather Service.

Only the NWS or a confirmed severe weather sighting by emergency response personal, typically Geneseo PD, can make the call to sound the siren. The control of the siren is held by the Geneseo Police Dept Dispatchers. They take the sounding of the siren seriously.

Any other questions you may have in regard to the storm siren can be answered at the first link in the comments.

Thank You and Be Safe Geneseo
