Best Advocacy Services

08/08/2018

2018-2019 school year it about to begin in a few days. Parents who suspect their child may have a learning disability of any type, should call us to discuss procedures in order to have their child fully assessed - for free. It is not as easy as one may anticipate (letter to request assessment, exact timelines, what to request when asking, assessments that are very important but district's fail to tell parents about that are very important, what to do if you do not agree with the assessments (ability to have private assessments paid for by district), and a multitude of other questions. Our consultation is always free, and we offer both limited and extensive year-long advocacy services for low cost. We have served over 1500 families in SLO County in the last 10 years. Advocates include retired district superintendent, k-12 principal, special education director and teacher, 30 years of experience in the schools and districts, and paralegal working with special education attorneys should the need arise. Many parents who go it alone are often blindsided by district/school staffs who do not have the best interest of your chid in mind, and will attempt to put parents through hell to avoid their lawful and ethical requirements. Learn the lawful truth, don't waste time, you child's developmental window closes rapidly at a very young age, and a few months can make years of success for your child.

15 years later and over 1750 clients across 5 counties, and still going strong. So great to see preschool clients going onto JS's and Universities. Leveling the play field is what it is all about.

Our latest efforts are to file a complaint with the Federal Office of Civil Rights since public school students who fall under the Americans with Disability Act, do not have access to the same services that their disabled peers have under Individuals Disability Education Act. The differences are quite stark and since both ADA and IDEA students are considered "disabled" it is only right that they and their parents are provided the same rights
