Prescribed Burning at Hearst San Simeon State Park
San Luis Obispo County
What: Prescribed burning of brush piles.
When: Tuesday, May 5th through Friday, May 29th. Actual burn days will be Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday – Thursday and will be determined by weather and permit conditions. Ignitions may start as early as 7 a.m. with fire activity curtailed by approximately 5 p.m. Personnel will remain on site for the duration of active fire.
Where: Hearst San Simeon State Park – burn sites include approximately 200 brush piles in the Monterey pine forest, south of Washburn Campground and approximately 10 piles along the Junge Ranch Trail on the west side of HWY 1.
Why: In order to reduce fuel loads and fire hazards as well as enhance the health of the native plant communities, and aid in the control of non-native, weedy species.
