(CAMARILLO, Calif.) Sept. 15, 2017 – The Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) open house held Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, welcomed students, community leaders, residents, faculty, staff, and other guests to its new District Administrative Center (DAC), located at 761 East Daily Drive, Suite 200, Camarillo, CA, 93010. Attendees included Camarillo Councilmember Kevin Kildee, Camarillo Chamber of Commerce Chair Tania Garcia, County of Ventura Supervisor Kelly Long, County of Ventura Chief Executive Officer Mike Powers, City of Ventura Councilmember and former VCCCD Board Chair Cheryl Heitmann, Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Stan Mantooth, representatives from the County of Ventura Board of Supervisors, field representatives for Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, Congressmember Julia Brownley, Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, and Assemblymember Monique Limon, local elected school board members, and community partners. Huerta was recently honored at a Latino Thought Makers event held at Oxnard College. She is the founder of the Dolores Huerta Foundation and co-founder of the National Farmworkers Association, that later became the United Farm Workers.

The Moorpark College Veterans Resource Center proudly hosted "The Eyes of Freedom: Lima Company Memorial" life-size portraits of the 23 fallen Marines of Columbus, Ohio-based Lima Company 3/25. During the opening reception for the traveling exhibit there were speeches from campus administrators and a presentation of a Certificate of Recognition from the office of Congresswoman Julia Brownley. The Ventura County Community College District announces six finalists who will be considered for the position of Chancellor. Among the candidates are: Dr. Jerry Buckley, Dr. David El Fattal, Dr. Greg Gillespie, Dr. Otto W. K. Lee, Dr. Melinda Nish and Dr. Arturo Reyes. The District will host a public forum for the community and members of the VCCCD staff to hear presentations from the finalists Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Ventura County Office of Education (5100 Adolfo Road, Camarillo, CA). The diverse group of qualified community college professionals will be interviewed during closed-session meetings Monday, March 20, 2017, and Tuesday, March 21, 2017. The final selection will be made and announced tentatively at the April 11, 2017, Board meeting with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2017.
