The VCCF Season is right around the corner!!

Want to know how to set yourself or your up for success? Here are some helpful hints from Ventura County Community Foundation to get you started on the right track!

06/05/2019

Congratulations everyone! Be sure you sign and date your award letter from VCCF. Send a copy of your signed letter to VCCF and keep the original. Do this by the end of June.

When you register for college classes for fall 2019, send VCCF a printout of your class schedule or the bill from your college for the fall 2019 term tuition and fees. Be sure the paper shows your name and your college’s name (the URL is okay). If the paper does not show your Student ID number please write it on the paper before you send it to VCCF.

It takes 2-3 weeks to process checks. Scholarship checks are mailed to your college with a letter. VCCF sends a photocopy of that letter to the student at the same time as they mail the original letter and check to the college.

The award letters are printed! Today they will be mailed out to students. Note: if you are awarded 1 scholarship, you’ll receive 1 letter. If you have been selected for 2 awards, you’ll receive 2 letters. We mail a letter for each scholarship. You’ll need to sign and date the bottom of the letter(s) and return a copy of each letter with your signature to VCCF signifying your acceptance of the award. Instructions are in the letter.
If you weren’t selected to receive a scholarship this year, we will be sending email notifications on Wednesday and Thursday. This was a very competitive process, so if you weren’t selected this year, be sure to apply again in November when the 2020 program opens.

We know everyone is eager to learn whether or not they were selected to receive a scholarship. We are working hard on data entry for another day or so. Notifications should go out Friday.
This was a very competitive scholarship season. We received over 2,500 applications and they were excellent. The Scholarship Selection Committee wished for more money for more awards because there are so many amazing and deserving students in Ventura County.

We are entering the last phase of our scholarship process and it’s very exciting! Once our VCCF Selection Committee finalizes its recommendations, we will send the list to the VCCF Board of Directors for their review and approval. No scholarship grant is final or can be made public until after the VCCF Board of Directors approves the grants. We will be notifying applicants May 14 and May 15, by regular mail and by email. Stay tuned! The applications this year were stellar.

03/29/2019

The Scholarship Selection Committee is in the process of reading applications. We’ll wrap up reading the end of April. The committee’s recommendations will be finalized by the beginning of May.
VCCF will send notifications to applicants the middle of May.

Remember! It’s never too late to thank your donor. 🎓✍️❤️

Some students have asked what they should do if they plan a double major. The system is set up so you can only select one major. In your brief application statement of 300-500 words, be sure to include a sentence or 2 about your having the double major. In the drop-down menu, select one of the two majors. The system will provide you a list of recommended opportunities based on your responses. You can also click on the "All Opportunities" link in your dashboard where you will see a button "Apply" next to the name of each scholarship. You can click on whichever of these you meet the criteria for, even if it wasn't in your original list of recommended scholarships. Follow the instructions after you click "Apply" as some of the opportunities require a separate essay. Once you click the "Apply" button for one of the opportunities, you will see the essay prompt and also learn whether or not any other information is required.
And the deadline is January 30th which is . . . soon!

Dear Ventura County Students:
When you’re answering the multiple choice questions at the beginning of the application, be sure you check Ventura County when it asks Do you live in one of these counties? You’ll see a drop down list, and it’s alphabetical. Ventura County is near the bottom. Select it. This is a qualifier.
