Camanche Public Library

Camanche Public Library Camanche Public Library is the only Iowa library situated on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The building was purchased in 1963 by the City of Camanche and the library was opened in 1965. In 1996 extensive remodeling was done to the library with an addition being constructed for more room as the library's collection, programs and services grew.

Meet Fernando, our screaming hairy armadillo. This fascinating species is native to South America, where it can be found in Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Screaming hairy armadillos are known for their highly efficient kidneys. This adaptation enables them to survive for long periods without drinking water. Instead of relying on direct water sources, they obtain much of their hydration from the moisture present in the plants they eat.
