Calverton National Cemetery is one of the largest and most active national cemeteries administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA). The cemetery accommodates casketed and cremated decedents, with 5,000-6,000 interments conducted each year. There are approximately 300,000 Veterans and family members interred in Calverton National Cemetery’s sacred g

rounds. Calverton National Cemetery was dedicated in 1978, with a tract of land transferred from the U.S. Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant, and has completed a series of expansions and renovations to improve service to Veterans and their families and meet the burial needs of the tri-state area. Across the hallowed grounds of Calverton National Cemetery, hundreds of thousands of Veterans rest and countless untold acts of service, sacrifice and courage are honored every day. It is our privilege to be part of the cemetery’s living history and to maintain this shrine to our Nation’s heroes. Calverton National Cemetery is open daily from sunrise to sunset for visitation of cemetery grounds. The administration office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for assistance in person or at 631-727-5410. Specific gravesites can be found using automated gravesite locators. A Nationwide Gravesite Locator for national cemeteries is also available at www.gravelocator.cem.va.gov. Visitors to specific gravesites may park along the curb adjacent to the section they are visiting. Public restrooms are located across from the administration building and on the way from the committal shelters to the exit. Visitors attending committal services are to report to the committal dispatch booth by following the signs and blue line which marks the road. Your procession will be assigned a committal shelter or told where to stage until one is available. Roadway parking is available near the committal shelter during services. We do not take lightly the privilege of maintaining the final resting place for our nation’s heroes and their eligible family members. When the time comes, we will ensure that committal services and interment processes are handled with dignity and respect, and will care for the gravesites of your loved ones in perpetuity. We pledge to honor the memory and legacy of each and every Veteran and to provide excellent service to families and visitors. Please visit NCA’s Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM). This online site honors more than 4.3 million Veterans interred in VA National Cemeteries and VA grant-funded tribal, state, and territory Veteran cemeteries. You may write a tribute to or post a photo of a loved one on VLM at www.vlm.cem.va.gov.
