As we took time to reflect, this was the passing of the spark to light the fire as we remembered Jeremy, Kerry and all Iowa Firefighters who have lost their life this past year.

Last night and today we took time to honor Captain Jeremy Weiss from Calmar and Chief Kerry Kleve at the Iowa Firefighters Memorial. Last night was a candlelight service for the families and departments to take a quiet reflecton on the loss of their loved ones. Today was a celebration to honor our Firefighters and all they have given to their families and communities. Jeremy and Kerry's names have been etched into the walls located at Coralville. Below are some pictures of two very special ceremonies. Videos will be posted in a separate post.

Being a Fire Mom often means solo bedtimes, missed holidays, and keeping the house running while the sirens are blaring. You are the silent heroes.

What kind of strength does it take to be both a firefighter and a mom?

She runs into burning buildings, then comes home to be someone’s safe place.

She carries the weight of the job, but still carries her family with love, patience, and strength.

On behalf of Calmar Fire and Rescuet, we wish to express our sincere gratitude to the community for your support and generosity during this challenging period following the loss of Captain Jeremy Weiss. Your words, gestures, and presence have offered comfort and strength, and we are grateful for the compassion shown by our community. We would like to thank the Chickasaw County Honor Guard for their role in honoring and guiding us through a memorable farewell for Jeremy. Additionally, we extend our appreciation to Decorah Fire for covering our communities, which enabled us to commemorate Jeremy, share memories, and pay our respects. Thank you for honoring his memory and standing by our side.

Yesterday we brought our brother Jeremy Weiss home. We were overwhelmed by the support and love of our neighboring communities, our community and our brothers and sisters of other Fire Departments, EMS, and law enforcement. The right words are hard to find right now, but Thank You
