Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

As you enjoy our park, please be on the lookout for snakes - they are moving! This one was found at the 75-acre lake.

Rattlesnakes can move their rattles back and forth 60 times per second and use this as a warning signal. Rattles are made up of a protein called keratin and a new segment is added each time a snake sheds.

If you walk up on a snake stay calm, freeze, and back away slowly.

We had a rare sight at our front office…a Ringtail!

Although commonly called a ring-tailed cat they are in the raccoon family. You never know what you'll see at Choke Canyon!

We are proud to announce that our Office Manager, Kaitlyn Noel, received Office Manager of The Year for Region 2 State Parks! Kaitlyn is a remarkable professional, who works not only to better our park, but all Region 2 with her knowledge in purchasing, budgeting, and all things state parks! We look forward to seeing how she continues to grow and learn at TPWD!
