MADISONVILLE, Ky. (May 15, 2026) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin a $2.2 million highway widening and improvement project along five miles of KY 254 in McLean County on Monday.
Motorists along this corridor should be alert for lane closures with flaggers between the Hopkins County line and KY 81 (5.3 mm) in Sacramento as work begins. Crews will be replacing and extending cross drains along this route, using single-lane closures and alternating traffic flow controlled by flaggers.
Starting in June, a portion of the roadway will be blocked completely for up to 30 days as crews construct a new concrete box culvert.
When all minor work and improvements are completed, the roadway is scheduled to be resurfaced from KY 1115 (2.65 mm) to KY 81 (5.3 mm).
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
Some delays are possible during the movement and placement of equipment to facilitate the work.
Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
