Before you head to the polls today, I want you to think about the person you are voting for.

I was raised to never judge someone based on what others say, but instead to take the time to meet people, talk with them, and see for myself who they truly are. I believe every person deserves a fair chance, and I try to always look for the good in people until they show me otherwise.

During this mayoral race, I’ve heard plenty of talk. Some positive, some negative about Mr. Kenny Dale Cost. But from my own experience of sitting down, speaking with him, and really listening to his vision, I can tell you I believe he is a good man who genuinely wants to do what’s best for this city. He’s willing to listen, willing to work with others, and willing to put in the effort to help Calera grow the right way.

Unfortunately, we’ve also seen what happens when leadership is used for the wrong reasons. Time and time again, Jon has shown us that he is not a team player. He has openly disrespected council members and city officials, chosen lies over honesty to protect himself, and used his position for personal gain rather than the benefit of the community. Those actions raise real questions about his integrity and his ability to put Calera before himself.

This election is about more than just politics, it’s about trust, teamwork, and the future of our community. I’m asking you not to judge Mr. Cost based on rumors, hearsay, or what others may try to say against him. Judge him by his character, his willingness to engage with people, and his desire to serve.

Calera deserves a mayor who will unite us, not divide us. A leader who will respect his council, work with city officials, and put the people first. We have an opportunity to start fresh and build the kind of Calera we all want to live in a city we can all be proud of.

We’ve already seen time and time again why Jon should not be reelected. Now it’s time to give someone new a chance. I believe Kenny Dale Cost is the right man for the job, and I hope you’ll join me in supporting him today at the polls

Tomorrow, September 23rd, is our chance to shape the future of Calera. It’s time for a new beginning, and I believe Kenny Dale Cost is the right man for the job as our next mayor.

Kenny is committed to bringing people together, listening to every voice, and making sure our city moves forward with unity and progress. He has the vision and dedication to lead Calera into its next chapter.

Let’s make it happen! Remember to get out and vote tomorrow, September 23rd. I’m voting for Kenny Dale Cost, and I hope you will too.

After meeting and talking with Kenny Cost since thr election, I can say without a doubt that I fully support him as the next mayor of Calera. We’ve discussed ideas for the city and ways to make Calera the best it can be. Kenny is committed to working with the Latino community and ensuring they are more involved in our community’s growth and success.

As I listened to Kenny share his goals and promises for the city, I told him that I will support him, but I will also hold him accountable to his words. I am open to working with him and the city, and if things take a wrong turn, I will not hesitate to speak up.

Calera needs a leader who truly wants growth, and right now, I believe Kenny Cost will be that leader, an honorable man ready to serve Calera and is a person who will keep his promises.

My designated poll watcher has just informed me that they have submitted ballets without a voter present. I am going to request a recount before the polls are officially released for all in-person votes and absentee votes to make sure the count and the number of voters are the same.

Today is the day! Make sure to get out there and make your voice heard!

Over the course of this campaign, I’ve spoken about the issues that matter most to the people of Calera. From raising officer pay so our police department is properly supported, to improving city services, creating opportunities for growth, clearing the city from the corruption that’s dug itself into our cities roots and making sure our community thrives for generations to come.

My vision has always been simple: I want Calera to be the best it can be, not just for us today, but for our children and our grandchildren. Every decision we make now will shape the future they inherit.

I ask you to think about the Calera you want our next generation to grow in. I’m not just asking for your vote. I am asking you to put your faith and trust in me for the benefit of our city. Regardless of what events unfold, I will always wish the very best for Calera, but this city deserves strong leadership and a brighter future.

Remember you’re not voting for today your voting for tomorrow

Elect me as your mayor. why? Because I don’t believe anyone has Calera’s best interest at heart like I do.

If you elect me, my very first agenda will be to raise our officers’ salaries as close as possible to $62,000 a year. We will also explore the possibility of providing back pay from the original request to increase their salaries, because our officers shouldn’t have to wait any longer for the respect and compensation they deserve.

And here’s my promise: within the first 90 days of me being in office, our officers will see the pay bump they need.

Don’t worry about whether or not the budget allows it. I’ve already spoken with Calera business owners and outside investors who are ready to give back to our city. They’ve always wanted to support our officers, but they’ve needed a mayor willing to work with them instead of against them.

Our police risk their lives every day to protect us. It’s time we stand up for them. With the right leadership, partnerships, and priorities, we can finally give them the support they’ve earned.

I’d like to sincerely thank the organizers of the Calera mayoral debate and everyone who came out or tuned in afterward to hear from the candidates. I truly appreciate the support, encouragement, and questions I’ve received from so many of you since Tuesday night.

Over the past few days, I’ve been opening my schedule to sitting down with anyone who wants to talk, listen, or ask about my goals for Calera. These conversations mean a lot to me, because our city is strongest when every voice is heard.

So don’t be shy. Reach out and let’s talk!
My name is Derrick Hidalgo, and I’m here to be the voice of the people.

I know that lately, we’ve faced challenges with our youth at school and public events. I believe we must find solutions without requiring our officers to spend all their time focused on those events. Even one of our own city councilmen has said that our police officers shouldn’t be babysitters for our schools.
The Calera Police Department does a great job protecting our city and giving our citizens the trust that they didn’t have before. But with our limited number of officers we already have, pulling them to cover events makes it even harder to protect the rest of our city.

When the subject about providing our schools with more funding for security for these events, there was no response the mayor quickly silenced the subject and the truth is, our officers should be there to protect and serve but not to manage problems that could have been prevented in the first place.

If our schools had stronger funding, more volunteers, and deeper community involvement, we could give our young people the structure, activities, and mentorship they need to succeed. The more we invest in our youth before an event, the less we need to police it during the event.

We don’t need new ordinances that restrict our kids from going to parks on event days. We need teamwork from parents, teachers, local businesses, and neighbors working together to create safe and well-organized events that unite our community.

Calera can do this. We have the people. We have the heart. Now we just need the will to make it happen.

Remember don’t vote for today, Vote for Calera’s Tomorrow.

Every day, our police officers put on the badge and step into situations that most of us will never face all to keep our community safe. They work long hours, answer tough calls, and sacrifice time with their families so that we can be with ours.
Police Chief Hyche has really turned the Calera Police Department around in the time that he’s been here. He has given our officers a leader they can put their faith in and he’s given the our citizens full trust and transparency but they lack support.

In the past 5 years we’ve lost 41 officers and staff. That’s almost as many that currently work in the CPD. The mayor has repeatedly denied the police department funding to raise our officers income causing many great officers to leave, he’s even gone as far to say he wants to shut down the CPD and let Shelby county patrol the area.
Our officers have some of the worst pay in the county even though they respond to more calls than the surrounding cities.
We have a city clerk that won’t even allow our officers the right to buy coffee with city funding. Chief Hyche uses his own money to buy coffee for our officers.

Is this the type of support from the city that you think our CPD deserves?

But even knowing they don’t have proper support from our city they continue doing an outstanding job protecting us because they love this city. Imagine what our city would look like if we truly supported our officers.

As mayor, I will make sure our officers have the funding, tools, and support they need to serve effectively. I will make it my mission to help Chief Hyche with incentives to help retain and bring in new officers, because supporting our law enforcement means supporting a safer Calera for everyone.
Remember don’t vote for today, Vote for Calera’s Tomorrow.
