The Calera Fire Department received a generous donation from Martin Marietta. We have an excellent working relationship with them and all of the quarries surrounding Calera. The fire department routinely trains on site to maintain our technical rescue proficiency.

We had our first annual retiree’s breakfast today. These men represent the first generation of the Calera Fire Department as a full-time, paid fire department. Many of these men were here back in the 1980’s and early ‘90’s when Calera was a small-town volunteer fire department. They built the foundation with Chief Tommy Moon. We have grown into a 50-member “All Hazards” response fire department serving the rapidly growing City of Calera. Thank you all for your leadership and service to Calera!

🚒 Calera Fire Department Smoke Detector Program

“Get Alarmed Alabama — Every Home Needs a Working Smoke Detector!”

As part of Fire Prevention Month, the Calera Fire Department is kicking off a special Smoke Detector Installation and Education Program!

🔥 Our Goal:
Every home in Calera should have working smoke detectors because they save lives.

👨‍🚒 Fire Marshal Ryan Tallie and the Calera Firefighters will be out in the community offering:

• FREE smoke detector installations for qualified Calera residents
• Home fire safety education, including escape planning and kitchen safety tips

📊 Why It Matters:

About 60% of home fire deaths happen in homes without working smoke alarms.

To break it down further:

38% of fatal home fires occur in homes with no smoke alarms at all.

Another 21–23% happen where alarms were present but didn’t operate.
