RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM MDT.
This evening for gusty winds and low relative humidities for the Owyhee Mountains.

A Red Flag Warning means high temperatures, very low humidity and stronger winds are expected to combine to produce an increased risk of fire danger.

As we enter the peak of summer, Idaho faces its yearly wildfire challenge. The combination of dry conditions, gusty winds, and high temperatures creates a perfect storm for the ignition and rapid spread of wildfires. These big fires pose significant threats to our communities, wildlands, and natural resources.

🚨 The Summer Wildfire Season:
The period from late June to early September is when Idaho experiences its most intense wildfire activity. The landscape is vulnerable, with vegetation parched and ready to ignite at the slightest spark. Once a fire starts, the strong winds characteristic of this time of year can swiftly turn a small blaze into a big one, threatening lives, homes, and wildlife.

🔥 Vigilance and Preparedness:
To confront this annual challenge, it is crucial for all Idahoans to remain vigilant and prepared:

1. 🔥 Stay Informed: Keep an eye on local news and official sources for Red Flag Warnings and wildfire updates.

2. 🔥 Prepare a Defensible Space: Create a buffer zone around your property by clearing away flammable debris and maintaining well-watered, fire-resistant landscaping.

3. 🔥 Report Fires Promptly: If you spot a wildfire, don't hesitate to call emergency services immediately. Early detection can make a significant difference in containing the blaze.

4. 🔥 Responsible Recreation: If you plan to enjoy the great outdoors, practice responsible behavior. Avoid activities like campfires or shooting in high-risk areas during this time of heightened danger.

5. 🔥 Support Firefighters: These brave men and women work tirelessly to protect our communities and wildlands. Show appreciation for their efforts and follow their guidance during wildfire incidents.
