The City of Caldwell, by order of the Mayor, is implementing temporary pedestrian foot traffic restrictions on the Pedestrian bridges near the Indian Creek Plaza as a precautionary safety measure following recent bridge inspections and a structural stress analysis.
As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to public safety, inspections of the bridges that cross Indian Creek have been completed, and the City is continuing to evaluate the information gathered to determine appropriate next steps.
Effective immediately, pedestrian access on the two bridges will be modified. The center portion of the bridges will be restricted, and pedestrian traffic will be directed to designated lanes along the sides of the bridges. Barriers and signs will be placed to clearly direct pedestrians to help maintain safe and orderly foot traffic. For everyone’s safety, the City asks pedestrians not to congregate on the bridges and to continue moving through the designated pedestrian lanes.
For safety purposes, a maximum of 40 people will be permitted on each bridge at any one time. The restrictions are precautionary and are intended to help manage the number of pedestrians on the bridges while the City continues its evaluation.
The City is also working closely with Destination Caldwell regarding activities and events taking place at Indian Creek Plaza to help ensure appropriate pedestrian access and safety measures are in place.
“We understand these restrictions may cause an inconvenience for residents, visitors, and businesses, and we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we take these precautionary measures,” Mayor Eric Phillips said. “Safety is our top priority, and we are committed to taking the necessary steps to protect everyone who uses these bridges.”
The City will continue gathering and reviewing information related to the condition and capacity of the bridges. Additional analysis will be conducted as needed, and City staff will present their findings and recommendations to the City Council for consideration regarding the appropriate next steps.
The City looks forward to the upcoming Indian Creek Festival and Winter Wonderland activities and will continue working with event partners to support these community traditions and celebrations while maintaining appropriate safety measures.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow all posted signs, barriers, and directions when using the pedestrian bridges at Indian Creek Plaza.
