Feliz Flora Friday! 🌿
This Friday, we’re looking at Common Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), found in our Sustainability Garden and the TreePeople “Pollinator’s Paradise” Native Garden Kit!
Common Yarrow is a small but hardy perennial known for feathery fern-like foliage and tiny flowers bunched into flat-topped groups. Yarrow is, no surprise, common among native plant gardeners due to the ease of care and long, consistent blooms from April to October. This plant is great for beginner gardeners as it is drought-tolerant and adaptable to a range of soil types.
A staple to pollinator gardens, Yarrow’s abundant white flowers often attract bees and butterflies, reseeding quickly to serve as great groundcover. Yarrow has also historically served many purposes as a key medicinal plant, earning the nicknames of nosebleed plant or soldier’s woundwort.
