Although wake restrictions on Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell have been lifted, please continue to operate at “slow-no-wake” speeds near the shorelines.

Lake levels are still high after the historic April flooding. Installation of the City's boat launches are being evaluated week-to-week. The launch off Chestnut Street was briefly installed on May 22nd however water still came over the dock and therefore it was removed again.

Please be courteous and do not make wakes near the shoreline since water may still crest over and cause damage in various areas. Once the launches are installed, signage reminding boaters regarding no-wakes near shorelines will be posted.

🚨Update!🚨

We’re excited to announce that all campsites previously closed due to flooding will be OPEN tomorrow as planned! Some sites may still be slightly wet after rains this week slowed down some of our progress, so we ask that everyone is mindful of the areas in the park that may be more soft than usual.

At this time we do plan to reinstall skid piers at both of our boat launches in the park prior to the weekend as well.

Thank you for your continued patience this spring, and we hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Mitchell State Park campers, following DNR Parks and Recreation Policy, campsites must be occupied within 24 hours of your arrival date. If not checked in by 3 PM the next day, your campsite will automatically be moved to “no-show”, canceling your stay.

While this policy is not new, our reservation system will now automatically cancel no-shows in place of park staff manually removing the reservation. By booking a campsite and choosing not to come without canceling, it takes away the chance for another visitor to enjoy that spot.

This policy will be consistent across all Michigan State Parks. To make changes to your reservation, visit midnrreservations.com or call 1 (800) 44-PARKS.

🚨Update!🚨

Water in the campground has receded noticeably, allowing us to re-open over 50 campsites that had been impacted by flooding. Pictured is our updated map of closed sites as of May 5th, and these sites will remain closed until May 20th unless conditions improve sooner. We appreciate your continued patience, things are moving in the right direction!

Flooding and closure updates as of May 2nd:

🔴 earlier this week, the Wexford County Emergency Management Team issued a temporary “no-wake” restriction to the entire water body of Lake Mitchell. At this time, Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac are both under this restriction.

🔴 Long Lake Missaukee State Forest Campground remains closed.

The Manistee River has gone down substantially and has allowed us to re-open the following access sites:

🟢 Lucas Road boat launch.

🟢 Baxter Bridge boat launch.

Boaters and anglers are urged to use caution on the river as flooding has created new hazards and obstacles.
