🚨 🐾 K9 SOKA IS HOME SAFE! 🐾

Our sneaky little guy is back in custody! After getting loose from his handler yesterday morning in Irons, K9 Soka was found about 4.5 miles away. He appears healthy—aside from a few porcupine needles—and will be taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.

We couldn’t have found him without the incredible support from our communities in Kent and Lake Counties, and everywhere in between and surrounding. Thank you to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, and other area partners who helped in the search, and to everyone who shared our post or kept an eye out for him.

Because of all of you, Soka is safe and headed home. 🐾

_____________________________

This morning, K9 Soka, a new German Shorthair mix with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, got loose from his handler while in Irons, Michigan. K9 Soka is trained in narcotics detection, microchipped, and wearing a collar with identification (as seen in the photos). He is friendly and may approach people if called.

The dog was last seen about 1.5 miles southwest of Peacock Township Hall in the Manistee National Forest. Lake County Sheriff’s Office has assisted with a ground search. Kent County Sheriff’s Office has deployed a drone to the area in hopes that the weather will now allow an aerial search.

If you see or locate K9 Soka, please secure him if possible and contact your local Sheriff’s Office or Lake County Central Dispatch immediately. Please share this post with people you know near Peacock Township, Sauble, Wolf Lake, Baldwin, and Irons to help us find K9 Soka.

SCAM ALERT: Contractors and Business Owners Beware

Our office has been made aware of a new scam targeting local contractors and business owners in the Wexford County area.

An individual is contacting businesses via text message, claiming to be hard of hearing and only able to communicate through text. They state that they own a home in or near Wexford County and are seeking services for the property.

The scammer offers to pay a large sum using a cashier’s check. They then ask the contractor or business to use a portion of that money to pay additional contractors on their behalf.

In many cases, when the contractor arrives at the supposed job site, the home is listed for sale. Further investigation reveals that the actual homeowner and/or realtor has no knowledge of the service request—and the individual who made the request does not own the property.

THIS IS A SCAM.

The check provided will later be found to be fraudulent, and the victim may be left responsible when the bank reverses the deposit.

Protect yourself:
• Be cautious of anyone requesting that you deposit a large cashier’s check on their behalf.
• Never agree to forward funds to third parties unless you have verified the legitimacy of the transaction.
• Trust your instincts—if something feels off, it probably is.

We have received phone calls from citizens regarding a scam phone call going around in our area. The individual on the line identifies himself as a Sgt. Damian Clark or Captain Trent Taylor from the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office. We do not have a Sgt. Clark, and we do not have captains at our office. He states that you did not show up for Jury Duty and a Failure to Appear warrant has been issued. He says that to avoid being arrested you must send $25,000.

This is a SCAM. The Wexford County Sheriff’s Office will never call anyone and demand money. If you ever receive a phone call that sounds suspicious hang up and call your local law enforcement directly.
