Comanche County District #3 Commissioner’s Office

Comanche County District #3 Commissioner’s Office This page is to keep citizens informed on what Comanche County District #3 is doing. One Commissioner is elected to administer each district.

We will use this page as another form of communication to alert the public of any news and projects that might effect their daily lives. We are always striving to improve our transparency and efficiency, so please contact us with any other suggestions that can help us make your understanding of what we do better. Below is a description of what the Commissioner role is from the County Web Page:

Cr

eated by the Oklahoma State Constitution, the Board of County Commissioners is composed of 3 Commissioners who are elected by the people. Comanche County is divided into 3 districts, as equal in population as possible, and numbered 1, 2, and 3. Boundaries for the districts are set once every 10 years following the Federal census.

Responsibilities
The Board of County Commissioners is the administrative and management entity for Comanche County. Each Commissioner administers a district, and as a Board, they are all responsible for the county as a whole. Legislation
The Board is responsible for enforcing legislation passed by the State of Oklahoma Legislature. The Board does not make its own legislation, though they can make resolutions. Administration
The Board meets publicly when transacting county business. By law, the commissioners must act as a board to: enter into contracts, make purchases, or make agreements that will affect the county. Finances
The Board is the chief fiscal entity of the county. It is in charge of receiving and expending funds, and is therefore held responsible for the following: making major financial decisions, transacting those decisions, preparing budgets, awarding contracts, and acting on claims. The Board must consider the estimated needs of each county office annually. The estimates must be published and forwarded to the Excise Board. Management
The Board is also responsible for investigating the performance of all county offices. This includes the proper handling of county funds. The Board can audit the accounts of all county officers who receive, manage, or distribute county funds. The Board can lawfully take action against an officer found delinquent in his/her duties. Development
The Board advertises for bids and approves contracts for major purchases or construction projects within the county. State law allows the Board to incur indebtedness in the name of the county when necessary. Commissioners are empowered to call county bond issue elections when necessary for county projects. Meetings
The Board meets every Monday at 9:00 a.m. in Room 302 of the Comanche County Courthouse, except on holidays or on special occasions. All sessions are open to the public and held in observance of the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act.

Many other duties and functions are performed by county commissioners due to specific needs, which vary from county to county. Permissive legislation provides the basis for these additional duties and functions.

Our crews started working on Mountain Ridge in the Lake Crest Addition yesterday to complete necessary work on tinhorns to ensure proper drainage as we get ready to chip/seal the area.

We are working in the area again today. While we understand the temporary dirt and gravel conditions can be inconvenient, these improvements are an important step toward providing a durable and long-lasting roadway!

Please use caution when traveling through work zones, obey all traffic control devices and watch for equipment and workers along the roadway.

With the bridge closure scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2026, our crew has been working hard to prepare the detour route and make it as safe as possible for motorists.

Today, one of the final safety improvements is being completed as crews stripe Quanah Road and Gore Boulevard between Highway 115 and Cache Road. The new centerlines and fog lines will provide better visibility and guidance for drivers traveling the detour.

In recent weeks, the route has also been patched, cleaned, and mowed, and new/additional traffic control devices have been installed in preparation for the increased traffic expected during the bridge closure.

Thank you for your patience as we complete these final preparations before the closure!

Weather permitting, crews will begin preparing roads in the Green Meadows Addition next week as we kick off the 2026 oil and chip season.

We understand the inconvenience that temporary dirt road conditions have created in areas where roads have been recycled. These improvements are part of the preparation process for this year’s road building and our crews are working diligently to move through this season as efficiently as possible.

Please use caution in work areas and be mindful of crews, equipment, and changing road conditions during ongoing operations.
