At Bethany Reservoir, we ask anglers and visitors to help protect the water, shoreline, and wildlife.

Discarded fishing line, hooks, lures, and packaging can seriously harm wildlife. Even small pieces of line can entangle birds and other animals, causing injury or worse.

Please take a moment before you leave to collect and properly dispose of all fishing gear and litter. Keeping what you bring in helps keep the reservoir clean and safe for everyone.

Respect the reservoir. Protect wildlife. Leave only footprints and good memories.

At Saturday, June 20th's Bird Walk, we celebrated the Tern-ing of the seasons! This Caspian Tern put on a spectacular aerial show like it was auditioning for America's Got Talons! (Although Terns have webbed feet for long walks on the beach.)

The Caspian Tern is the largest of the Tern species, roughly the size of a crow. The black crown on its head indicates this is a breeding adult. It's safe to assume this Tern stopped over at Bethany for some rest and food on its way to common breeding grounds along the coast.

Want to learn more about the birds at Bethany? Stay tuned for upcoming events including more bird walks!

Watch out for the Invasion!

The golden mussel has been spotted in waterways near Bethany Reservoir SRA. Golden mussels are similar to the invasive zebra and quagga mussels, as they grow in dense clumps and having no natural predators these mussels can quickly take over an area.

Make sure your boat or any other water equipment is clean and dry after use in any waterway.

Heading out on the water? Make sure your California Boater Card is with you before you leave the dock. California law requires operators of motorized vessels to carry their Boater Card on board and have it available if requested

Not having it when required can result in a citation. Stay safe, stay legal, and enjoy your time on the water. 🌊🚤 Have fun and boat safely! 🚤🌊

Come join us June 13th at 10:00 AM! We'll spend 90 minutes learning about the reservoir, safe kayaking practices, and the plants and animals that make this park such a hidden gem.

Participants must bring their own kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or other non-motorized watercraft, as well as a properly fitting life vest. Please arrive early to allow time to launch your boat.

This program will be canceled in the event of high winds or strong wind gusts. An alternate program will be offered if weather conditions are unsafe but otherwise allow for an outdoor educational experience.

While feeding wildlife may seem like an enjoyable way to connect with nature, doing so can have dangerous consequences for both animals and humans. Wildlife fed by humans often lose their natural fear of people and can become aggressive resulting human-wildlife conflicts. Please resist the temptation to feed and instead use your binoculars/camera to enjoy watching wildlife!

The American Kestrel is North America's smallest falcon. About the size of a robin, this tiny yet fierce bird quickly subdues its prey with its notched beak. You can spot them perched on roadside wires or flying low over open fields. American Kestrels are typically seen in the area all year round. Keep an eye out for these tiny raptors next time you're at Bethany!
