Physical outdoor job!

Starting rate of $17/hour. Overtime starts at $25.50/hour.

Summary:

Waterway of Michigan is a fire equipment testing company based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We test fire hose, ground ladders, hard suction, air bottles, and more.

Responsibilities:

-Pulling fire hose off fire trucks
-Preparing the hose to be tested
-Rolling up the hose after it is tested
-Loading the hose back onto the fire trucks

Requirements:

-Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds
-Must be able to drag heavy hose
-Must have reliable transportation to the local meet site
-Daily travel in company vehicles
-Occasional overnight trips (meals and accommodations are provided)
-We are looking for general laborers but we are also looking for someone able to drive a pickup truck and trailer. Please let us know if you are able to drive a pickup truck and trailer, if hired for a driving position you will be paid more.

We were contacted earlier this week about a brother in the fire service and this is what has evolved from that conversation.

We have a chief that was on the Detroit fire department back from 1942 to 1977 and retired as a battalion chief is having his 101st birthday. He is located just south of Grand Rapids Michigan. They are having a drive by celebration for him and a couple of us will be joining the procession with our old fire trucks which we figure he actually used similar trucks to ours when he was in the FD. It would be awesome if we could create a longer procession of older trucks for him to enjoy. It's not often that a firefighter makes it to 101 years old!! I was also asked to bring my dalmatian Cinder for him since they are having the theme of 101 Dalmatians for his 101st birthday. I got to thinking wouldn't it be awesome if we actually had 101 Dalmatians? So if you live nearby or know of anyone with a Dal nearby could you contact me so I can see if it could really work? Thanks everyone.

We have some major news. We are adding a permanent 2nd hose testing crew that will be starting in a week that will augment our Michigan/Indiana/Ohio crew. We are also adding another new crew to take care of our customers that are in Illinois/Wisconsin/Minnesota/Iowa. This is a new venture for our Co-op. We are taking over for a Waterway Co-op that was servicing the area but have decided to move on to other ventures.

To accommodate these new moves we are moving our office and shop to a new location to have more room for the additional support people that are needed for this. We hope to be able to service our existing and our new customers more efficiently with the added support people.

We also want to welcome all of our new customers from Illinois/Wisconsin/Minnesota/Iowa. We look forward to meeting and fulfilling all of your testing needs in the future.
