The Byram Township Police Department, in conjunction with Mount Olive Township Police Department, Washington Township Police Department, Hackettstown Police Department, Stanhope Police Department, Chester Township Police Department, Roxbury Township Police Department, Netcong Police Department, and the Morris County Sheriff's Office will be conducting targeted high-visibility traffic enforcement throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend. These agencies will coordinate enforcement efforts with a focus on aggressive driving, speeding, distracted driving, and driving while intoxicated (DWI) in an effort to keep roadways safe during one of the busiest and most dangerous travel periods of the year.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 511 people were killed in traffic crashes nationwide during the 2023 Labor Day holiday weekend. Thirty-six percent of those fatalities involved a drunk driver, and 62% of the drunk drivers involved in fatal crashes had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .15 or higher, nearly twice the legal limit.
New Jersey has also experienced its share of deadly crashes during the holiday. New Jersey State Police data shows that 41 people were killed on New Jersey roadways during the five Labor Day holiday periods from 2019 through 2023.

Dear Parents, Coaches, Park Goers, and Community Members,

We understand that schedules are busy with school, sports, rides, repeat…but we need your cooperation regarding the parking situation at C.O. Johnson Park.

The current parking behavior is unacceptable. Please remember that parking is only permitted in designated areas. Additionally, please note the following:

- Upper Lot: The upper lot by the field house is reserved strictly for handicapped parking. This lot is tight and should not be used as a drop-off zone, as it creates a danger for pedestrians.
- Field House Hill: Parking is prohibited on the hill between the signs that state “No Parking Between Signs.”
- Grass Areas: Parking is strictly prohibited on any grass area.

Please correct these parking habits immediately so further enforcement action is not required. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our park safe.
