The contractor working for Byram Township will begin work on the milling/paving project starting on Monday June 8, 2026. This project will consist of multiple days of milling/paving.

Please note that this project is weather/mechanical dependent.

Also, please take note of the following:
All vehicles Must be removed from the roadways from 7am until 6pm.
During this project, access to driveways will be impacted.
If you are anticipating any deliveries involving large vehicles, have landscapers working, or are getting a septic system pumped out, please plan accordingly and schedule this when work is completed.
For additional information about this project, please refer to the letter that you received, or township website https://www.byramtwp.org/index.php/articles/road_milling_and_paving_projects for exact roadways affected by this project.

The tentative schedule for milling and paving is listed below:

Milling:
June 8th and 9th Brookwood area roadways
June 9th to 15th Tamarack area roadways
June 16th to 23rd Forest Lakes area roadways

Paving:
June 15th and 16th Brookwood area roadways
June 16th to 22nd Tamarack area roadways
June 23rd to 30th Forest Lakes area roadways

Flagmen and Township Police Officers will be in the area to help direct traffic and ensure safe passage. Today was truly a great day to participate in the National Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey. We had the privilege of running with Special Olympic athletes and officers of neighboring Hopatcong Police and Netcong Police Department. It was incredible to see all the Lenape Valley High School students and staff, businesses, and residents come out to cheer the athletes on.
Thank you to everyone involved who makes this all possible, Netcong ShopRite, and support staff for looking over us.

Notice to Residents and Motorists: Temporary Traffic Disruptions on June 5, 2026.
Residents and motorists are advised that Sparta-Stanhope Road, Brooklyn Road, and Route 183 (from Sparta to Netcong) will experience temporary traffic disruptions between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, due to the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The runners will enter Byram via Sparta-Stanhope Road, proceed along Brooklyn Road to Route 183, and continue into Netcong.

Motorists near the route should expect brief delays and allow extra travel time. Participants will be running on the roadway accompanied by emergency vehicles for their safety.

We appreciate your patience and support for this event benefiting Special Olympics New Jersey athletes. Your cooperation and support for the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics New Jersey are greatly appreciated.

As we reflect on the month of May, the Byram Township Police Department is pleased to share a snapshot of the dedicated work performed by our officers and staff in service to our community. The statistics below highlight the calls for service, proactive enforcement efforts, investigations, and community engagement activities handled throughout the month.

🚨 Arrest Highlights for May 2026:

-On May 1, 2026, Julio Santana of Saylorsburg, PA, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear.

-On May 11, 2026, Jayson Genardi of Highland Lakes, NJ, was arrested and charged with Simple Assault.

-On May 17, 2026, Kelly Marchesin of Glen Spey, NY, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Refusal to Submit to Breath Tests along with other motor vehicle offenses.

-On May 18, 2026, Marion Ingala of Byram Township, NJ, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated along with other motor vehicle offenses.

-On May 19, 2026, Jose Lagunes-Romero of Stanhope, NJ, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated along with other motor vehicle offenses.

-On May 22, 2026, Alex Kasper of Byram Township, NJ, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated along with other motor vehicle offenses.

-On May 22, 2026, Scott Moberg of Byram Township, NJ, was arrested and charged with Harassment.

-On May 30, 2026, Julia Johnson of Hackettstown, NJ, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated along with other motor vehicle offenses.

-On May 31, 2026, Nathaniel Asamoah of Newark, NJ, was arrested on and outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear.

-On May 31, 2026, a 14-year-old Male was arrested and charged with two counts of Simple Assault.

In addition to our operational accomplishments, May was filled with several significant events for our department. We proudly celebrated National Police Week, honoring the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the nation, recognized the outstanding achievements of our personnel during our annual Department Awards Ceremony, Lieutenant Perry was sworn in for his well-deserved promotion from Sergeant, and we congratulated the graduates of our LEAD (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) Program, whose hard work and participation help strengthen the partnership between our department, local schools, and the community.

Today, we proudly congratulate Officers Andrew Colligan and Michael Juhls on graduating from the Morris County Police Academy’s 106th Basic Police Class.

Officers Colligan and Juhls will now begin the next phase of their careers as they enter our Field Training Program, where they will continue to develop the skills and experience necessary to serve our great community.

Please join us in congratulating Officers Colligan and Juhls, and wishing them a safe and successful career!

In a promotion ceremony held on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, at the Byram Township Municipal Building before members of the Byram Town Council, Sergeant Kevin Perry was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
Lt. Perry and our department look forward to his new role in this administrative position and continuing our community-first approach to policing.

Update: Open in both directions.
Lackawanna Drive is currently closed at Bank Street due to a vehicular accident involving a downed utility pole and power lines. Although a detour has been established, motorists are advised to avoid the area.
