On October 4th, 2024 the Student Government Association organized a Dress Down Day for cadets to raise money for the LCpl Matthew R. Rodriguez “The Smiling Warrior” Foundation. On October 27th the organization held their annual “Run to Remember” 5k where 1/C Shane McNamara (SGA President) delivered the check totaling $9,075 to the Rodriguez family. The Smiling Warrior foundation was created by MMA alumni Lisa Rodriguez-Doherty in honor of her LCpl Matthew R. Rodriguez, a United States Marine, who was killed in action in Now Zad, Afghanistan on December 11, 2013. Their efforts benefit veterans and military-family groups, as well as other like-minded organizations in the local community. From 5k’s to memorials and even their own playground, the Smiling Warrior’s impact is substantial to everyone in the area. For more information please visit: thesmilingwarrior.org
