One thing the Park Audit Series has taught me:
The little things matter.
A broken bench.
Overflowing trash.
A worn-out sign.
Most people walk past them.
But over time those little things shape how a community feels.

πŸŒ³β˜€οΈ SHOULD OUR SPORTS FIELDS HAVE MORE SHADE? ⚽πŸ₯Ž

If you've ever spent a summer afternoon at a soccer game, softball tournament, baseball game, or football practice, you probably know exactly why we're asking this question.

Northern California summers can get HOT.

While our athletes are out competing, parents, grandparents, coaches, referees, and spectators often spend hours sitting in the sun supporting their kids.

So we're curious...

πŸ’¬ Should our sports complexes focus more on adding shaded areas?

Some ideas could include:

🌳 More shade trees around fields
β›± Additional shade structures
πŸͺ‘ Covered spectator seating
πŸ₯€ Shaded gathering areas near concessions and restrooms
⚽ Cooler spaces for athletes between games

Better shade doesn't just improve comfortβ€”it can also help with heat safety and encourage more families to stay and enjoy tournaments, games, and community events.

As we continue our Park Audit Series, this is one of the most common suggestions we've heard from parents and spectators.

Now we want to hear from YOU.

πŸ‘‡ Would additional shade be a priority for you at our sports facilities?

Tell us where you've seen great shade solutions and what parks or sports complexes could benefit most.

One of my favorite things about living in Butte County?

People still show up.

School events.

Youth sports.

Fundraisers.

Community projects.

That kind of support system is getting harder to find, and it's something worth protecting.

Parents in Butte County β€”

What's one skill you wish schools spent MORE time helping kids develop?

Communication?

Leadership?

Financial literacy?

Problem solving?

No right or wrong answers. Just curious what local families think.

Real question...
What's the most underrated park in Butte County?
Not the most popular.
The one people don't talk about enough.

Ever notice how you can tell which parks are truly loved?

The grass might not be perfect.

The paint might be fading.

But they're packed with families.

Kids laughing.

People actually using them.

That's when you know a park matters.
