📍 TEN-YEAR CONVERSATION
Our working idea is to explore whether Oroville could responsibly support roughly 4,000–7,000 additional residents over ten years.
But I don't want growth simply for the sake of saying our population increased.
Growth has to come with:
Jobs.
Infrastructure.
Housing.
Healthcare.
Businesses.
Parks.
Recreation.
And quality of life.
Otherwise we've grown a number without strengthening the community.
That's why we're developing these ideas together BEFORE calling them a plan.

🌳 HERE'S A SIMPLE PARK TEST.
Walk into a park you've never visited.
Spend 15 minutes there.
What do you notice?
Is it clean?
Can you find a restroom?
Is there shade?
Does the playground look maintained?
Can someone with mobility limitations navigate it?
Are the fields healthy?
Do you feel comfortable?
Would you bring your family back?
Sometimes evaluating a park doesn't require complicated metrics.
It requires experiencing it like a resident.
That's the philosophy behind our Park Audit Series.

🌅 WHAT DOES AN ACTIVE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY ACTUALLY NEED?
Not simply houses.
It needs LIFE.
Walking.
Recreation.
Healthcare.
Restaurants.
Arts.
Community events.
Volunteer opportunities.
Nature.
Shopping.
Social opportunities.
And places where grandchildren WANT to visit.
If Oroville strengthens those things, the benefits don't belong to one generation.
We all get a stronger community.

🌙 WHAT IF WE COULD USE MORE OF OUR PARKS AFTER WORK?
Better lighting can mean:
More evening recreation.
Later practices.
Walking after work.
More programming.
Greater visibility.
More usable hours from facilities taxpayers already own.
Lighting isn't appropriate everywhere, and operating costs matter.
But I believe strategically extending recreation hours deserves serious consideration.
Would you use our parks more often if certain areas were better lit?

⏱️ WHAT IF TECHNOLOGY COULD GIVE OUR PARK CREWS MORE TIME?
That's one reason I've been researching robotic mowing.
The objective isn't replacing our maintenance crews.
It's asking whether certain repetitive jobs can eventually be automated so skilled employees can spend more hours:
Repairing.
Landscaping.
Maintaining playgrounds.
Improving fields.
Addressing irrigation.
Completing projects.
Cleaning facilities.
Technology should help people accomplish MORE.
I'll continue researching the costs before advocating any investment.

🇺🇸 HAPPY LABOR DAY, OROVILLE!

Today is about recognizing the people whose hard work keeps our community moving every single day.

The maintenance crews who care for our parks and public spaces.

The teachers and school staff who support our children.

The first responders who answer the call.

The construction workers and skilled tradespeople who build our community.

The healthcare workers who care for our families.

The farmers and agricultural workers who help feed our region.

The small business owners and employees who keep our local economy moving.

And every person who gets up, goes to work, provides for their family, and contributes to the community we call home.

As someone who believes strongly in the value of hard work, I also believe the people doing the work deserve our respect and appreciation.

So today, enjoy the barbecue, spend some time outside, visit a local park, support a local business, and hopefully get a little well-earned rest.

To everyone working today while the rest of us celebrate, an extra thank you.

Happy Labor Day from the Quinn family and Quinn For Butte! 🇺🇸

One thing I want to change about how we talk about parks:
Maintenance shouldn't only become a conversation when something breaks.
Preventative maintenance matters.
Irrigation.
Turf.
Trees.
Playground inspections.
Equipment.
Lighting.
Restrooms.
Fields.
Paths.
Small problems ignored today can become expensive problems tomorrow.
One of my priorities for FRRPD is looking at how we can become increasingly proactive instead of reactive.
Maintain the investment.
Protect the taxpayer.
Raise the standard.
